In today's game, Middlesbrough beat Hull 1-0 to shoot to the top of this mini league! Hull look worryingly adrift so far, however they are yet to play any of these teams at home. They need to start picking up points soon.

Code:
                       Home Away
               Pl W D L F A W D L F A GD Pts
Middlesbrough 4 2 0 1 4 2 1 0 0 2 1 +3 9
Crystal Palace 4 0 1 0 1 1 2 0 1 7 6 +1 7
Sunderland 4 1 0 2 6 5 1 0 0 2 1 +2 6
Bournemouth 4 1 0 1 7 3 0 1 1 1 3 +2 4
Burnley 2 1 1 0 4 3 0 0 0 0 0 +1 4
Hull 4 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 3 2 11 -9 1
On Saturday we have Burnley v Bournemouth and Hull v Crystal Palace. The winner of the former would go up to at least 3rd and depending on Hull v Palace, they could move 2nd! Palace will go top with a win, while Hull would either move level on points with one of Burnley or Bournemouth or they'd be a point behind both.

It would be interesting to indicate each teams actual league position alongside the mini-league table.

I find this mini league a bit strange because it was based on the promoted teams and thise finishing there last season. Surely you have to look at changes during the close season, managers and players coming in and leaving and how the club is run.

I would not have had Bournemouth in the bottom six because they have a very good manager and club ownership who have been good in the transfer market both last season and through the summer. I thought Swansea was a cast iron certainty to struggle since the new owners tore up the script on how the club was run and losing Williams was always going to be a big loss. So a straight swap with Bournemouth and Swansea on day one of the season would have been better.I would not have swapped Crystal Palace and West Ham but in hindsight looking at moving to the new stadium, the poor signings made in the summer and the constant moaning from my West Ham fan about thise signings probably should have alerted me to what was going to come but you were probably right keeping Crystal Palace in the bottom six.

I think Hull are doomed and I think Swansea are joining them. The one I may have got wrong before the season started is Sunderland because I just saw no improvement over the last 5 seasons in recruitment or ambition from the owners and I thought anyone other than Alardyce would really struggle this season. Maybe, just maybe Moyes is going to turn them round. Middlesborough may only have won their third game of the season but they are really difficult to play against home or away whereas Burnley seem to have difficulty away from home. I can't see Bournemouth finishing in the bottom six because they have so many goals in their team and have improved their home form this season.

I will start doing that from Saturday, thanks for the suggestion.

I find this mini league a bit strange having Bournemouth there and not Swansea or West Ham. Listening to Bilic on Saturday he not only is he disappointed with the game performances but the training too which surely has to worry West Ham fans.

Well someone moaned about Crystal Palace being in this mini league and then they went on a run of losses to back it up, so you may have just cursed Bournemouth.

I agree with your points regarding Hull and Swansea, difficult to see them surviving atm.

I must apologise because I missed the O/P of this therad so I now can understand the reasoning therefore I have now edited my post to reflect that. I do think however that the mini league could have been chosen on the basis of summer activity, owners and the running of a club. In the end I have only swapped Bournemouth and Swansea and only my West Ham fan who has been constantly moaning through the summer should have alerted me to what was going to happen to them so I would have agreed with the O/P having Crystal Palace still in the mini league. But once again sorry for misinterpreting the O/P.

That's ok, we all misread things at times. In hindsight it does look weird not having West Ham or Swansea in this mini league but it is only based on the previous season's events. There's still a long way to go this season of course so we'll see what happens.

Those things are all subjective and in the closed season every fan would have a different opinion, so best to base it on something factual. It doesn't really mean anything anyway, just a bit of fun really. If you're logic had been applied to the top six league then possibly man United would not have featured when Moyes took over and it could be argued that Liverpool and Chelsea shouldn't feature this year.

In a day of high-scoring games, Burnley beat Bournemouth 3-2, while Hull and Crystal Palace played out a 3-3 draw.

Code:
                            Home Away
                (AP) Pl W D L F A W D L F A GD Pts
Middlesbrough (16) 4 2 0 1 4 2 1 0 0 2 1 +3 9
Crystal Palace (15) 5 0 1 0 1 1 2 1 1 10 9 +1 8
Burnley (13) 3 2 1 0 7 5 0 0 0 0 0 +2 7
Sunderland (20) 4 1 0 2 6 5 1 0 0 2 1 +2 6
Bournemouth (11) 5 1 0 1 7 3 0 1 2 3 6 +1 4
Hull (19) 5 0 1 0 3 3 0 1 3 2 11 -9 2
As promised, I have added the position the teams are in the actual Premier League table for reference, as seen under the abbreviation 'AP' and in brackets. With their victory, Burnley leapfrog Bournemouth and move up to 3rd in this table, while Hull remain rooted to the bottom following their draw with Crystal Palace.

Next up is Burnley v Middlesbrough on Boxing Day.

Apologies for the delay - on Boxing Day we had Burnley v Middlesbrough and Burnley edged it 1-0.

Code:
                            Home Away
                (AP) Pl W D L F A W D L F A GD Pts
Burnley (14) 4 3 1 0 8 5 0 0 0 0 0 +3 10
Middlesbrough (15) 5 2 0 1 4 2 1 0 1 2 2 +2 9
Crystal Palace (17) 5 0 1 0 1 1 2 1 1 10 9 +1 8
Sunderland (18) 4 1 0 2 6 5 1 0 0 2 1 +2 6
Bournemouth (12) 5 1 0 1 7 3 0 1 2 3 6 +1 4
Hull (20) 5 0 1 0 3 3 0 1 3 2 11 -9 2
As a result, Burnley now leapfrog Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace to top this mini league! Good going from them after being second from bottom two mini league games ago.

Burnley are up again next with their final home game of this mini league - they take on Sunderland who would move 2nd with a win.

In today's game, Burnley smashed Sunderland 4-1 to continue their great form!

Code:
                            Home Away
                (AP) Pl W D L F A W D L F A GD Pts
Burnley (11) 5 4 1 0 12 6 0 0 0 0 0 +6 13
Middlesbrough (16) 5 2 0 1 4 2 1 0 1 2 2 +2 9
Crystal Palace (17) 5 0 1 0 1 1 2 1 1 10 9 +1 8
Sunderland (18) 5 1 0 2 6 5 1 0 1 3 5 -1 6
Bournemouth (10) 5 1 0 1 7 3 0 1 2 3 6 +1 4
Hull (19) 5 0 1 0 3 3 0 1 3 2 11 -9 2
No position changes to talk about this time, however Burnley are in command of this mini league right now - 4 points clear! They've played all their home games now and have their away fixtures to come, so we'll see if they can continue this run.

Next up is Hull v Bournemouth on the 14th January - a big match for both teams!
