The DWAS Facebook page says:

Sunday, 23rd October 2016.
Write it down. Trust me, you don't want to miss this.

Speculation welcome ...

I'd be quite happy with that, but surely Mr Capaldi has only been in the show five minutes?

Only if it's announced very soon that Capaldi is leaving. They don't usually tell you to mark your calender to find out the current Doctor's leaving. :P

It's more likely to be something to do with the DWAS.

Depends if the Doctor Who Appreciation Society Facebook page has some exclusive insider knowledge. It might not be related to the show at all.

I'd be quite happy with that, but surely Mr Capaldi has only been in the show five minutes?
That's roughly about as long as it takes for fans to demand a successor before the show literally implodes or something.

The DWAS is 40 years old this year.
I know they had a celebratory convention earlier in the year, but perhaps this is another celebration of some kind, exactly a month before the 53rd anniversary of the show itself?

I reckon it's only that Doctor Who and Class will be at New York Comic Con.

Takes place a few weeks earlier than this date.

It's probably just the start/ upload to iplayer date for 'Class'.

I'd be quite happy with that, but surely Mr Capaldi has only been in the show five minutes?
It might seem quick if he'd gone after 2 series, but by the time he has completed series 10 and assuming he also did the 2016 Christmas special, he'd have had 3 series and 4 Christmas specials, so not exactly 'five minutes' when that would be the same amount of series and roughly the same amount of episodes Matt Smith did.

It would be strange for them to start announcing the date that they are announcing a doctor to leave though, and it wouldn't be too kind to Capaldi to seem to celebrate it in that way, so I doubt it would be that.

If he were announced to be leaving before the date in question, then maybe I could believe that date might be the new doctor announcement, but that, and the knowledge of whether or not he is leaving after series 10 or not at all, remains to be seen.

I'm still guessing if there is anything at all, it will be something boring or not too great.

Not that this is official in any way.

Of course. Being a fan society thing it may just be about their club and not actually the show itself.

If they do have insider knowledge about a piece of news who related though, I'm still guessing it will be something mundane about class or comic con.

The more i'm thinking about it, the more I'm thinking that there would likely be more whispers of something big from more than one source if it were regarding something as big as a doctor change or similarly important news.

Guys its nothing to do with Doctor Who just saw their facebook someone asked if its to do with The Doctor Who Universe and New Series and they said no, its something to do with the Doctor Who Appreciation Society, 40th anniversary not Doctor Who lol. Just some fanclub thing.

Sigh. All that thread conversation for nothing. Just shows what a 'lack of who' period we are in when the mere vague unconfirmed suggestion of something gets people talking.

DWAS are doing a Pertwee-themed event on 23.10.16.

As you were. All stand easy.

What a sad and pathetic way to make an announcement.

It will probably be a pretty good event though.

Exactly! I'd love to get my hands on another official DW story on DVD.

The last DW related DVD I bought was Daemos Rising a couple of weeks ago. Even thought it's DW related, it's not canon. Haven't seen it yet, but I am going to be brave, and attempt to watch it this weekend.

Be a real shame if no other story that's currently 'missing presumed wiped' wasn't found, either partly or in it's entirety.

I miss getting 'new' Doctor Who DVDs in my local HMV. Was a real treat for me. Something really special!
