Jesus! I hate to think that were actually planning a long term thing with JP and Scott. I convinced myself their relationship was merely a plot device for James and John Paul getting together. Then again after John Paul chose to be with Scott the first time, it did look that way. I guess the writers changed their minds. Just as well really.
I do think McHay was something the show tried so hard to push and when the whole conversation about meeting at xmas happened, that was their way of reuniting them later. Except Starry happened, which was met with a better reception so they closed the door on that one. I mean I can't say I'm a Starry fan myself but I do think the viewers took to Harry more than they did with Doug and JP as a love interest for Ste (after Brendan) so the writers went with it.
I know it's not popular here, but I like Ste and Harry together. I think they work and are quite cute. Plus, if McHay had worked out we wouldn't have McNight now!
I've now finished the Craig arc and I don't think anything can tough McDean for sheer epicness tho.

I'm indifferent to Starry. I don't love or dislike them but I do think Ste works better with Harry than he ever did with JP and Doug.

Agreed. No love interest JP has now will eclipse what he had with Craig. That story was well told, clearly took alot of planning and the actors had a great chemistry. It's the kind of love story you root for. It was a real coming of age story.
McNight wont reach thier height of popularity or epicness, there is no denying that. I do think they have the potential to tell a different kind of story though and be quite big IF told right. With McNight, it's not a 'coming out' story or forbidden love. In fact this story could even be told with a straight couple. It's essentially a man who has to constantly keep his emotions at bay because he's been brainwashed by his mum his whole life that he's not capable of love. I think that's an interesting angle and not one we always see in soap. Watching JP slowly break down those walls would be progression for James. However I don't want them picking out china patterns any time soon.

Dreadful!! I thought that the JP/Scott nonsense was the writers scrapping the bottom of the barrel after having run out of ideas, trying to find something to do with Scott.... but the notion that they had actually planned that atrocity as something potentially long-term makes me die inside!!
And here I was thinking that they probably had thought of JP's future when they introduced James and made him gay. How naive.

Harry is my least favourite of Ste's partnership after Noah (ewww) and Sinead LOL I can't wait for them to be over so that I can maybe be interested in Ste again.
Besides my intense dislike of Parry Glasspool, I see anti-chemistry between them (in spite of the excessive shirtlessness and eating their faces off every minute. It's the opposite of sexy), and I don't think their relationship was developed well at all. They had one conversation after which they looked into each other's eyes for 5 seconds, and immediately Ste was the love of Harry's life (which I guess it's appropriate behavior for a teenager), and they were this couple of star-crossed lovers. Ste is also a toxic partner for someone as young as Harry, and it's just not entertaining for me to watch. God, I so want them to be over, but there's no one left to pair Ste with (unless they want to have him suffer some karma, and put him with Scott), so I guess I am stuck with Starry for the foreseeable future.

At least they have given James a depth to his character so that over the months they can slowly unravel him to viewers. It will also give JP something to do in finding out about James' past. Scott was a complete dead end. There is nothing else to develop in his character.

I really didn't like James telling Diego to drop the McQueen's because of his experience or calling him a sap for loving Myra. They needed some link to the accident but what happened was his fault. I don't think even James would put the blame onto JP. It looks like he will reverse again when seeing JP. It will look like he only cares for JP as long as he can see.
Odd too that Ste never visited him as they were married.

Two things that really bother me.
I wanted James to do something to make amends to JP while JP was still blind, in order to show that James' feelings are really genuine. Too easy to abandon someone in their time of need "because you are not the caring type" (whether it's true or just a false belief) and then go back when they are ok again...
And Ste only remembers that people exist when he needs something from them, I guess.

And this is what bothers me. I don't like that JP regaining his sight will be a factor in James visiting him. That said, the spoilers do look promising and hopefully James can shed some light on why he's stayed away. I don't want JP to make it easy on James though.

He is going to send him off with a flea in his ear for leaving him in his time of need. The only thing I can think of that James could do too his mum is to chuck her out of his house. That would be fun to watch. I wonder if being on her own instigates a call to her mum.
The spoiler says that James takes revenge so my thinking is that he discovered something that he wasn't privy to before. Surely it can't be becusse marnie manipulated him his whole life because that's nothing new and rightly or wrongly, something James has come to accept. My guessing is that he finds out something she did in his past. Maybe James thought he had all the information only to find out exactly the role Marnie played in it all.
I do think this will be the week and where James has an epiphany about his dear old mother.

Do we know that James visits JP and that they don't interact before the spoilers mention them talking? I haven't seen any spoilers beyond those incredibly short tumblr ones and they don't mention the circumstances under which James tells JP about his childhood.

Im not sure but it's unlikely they'll be sharing and screen time together this time or next because they're not in the spoilers and Patrick's story is now coming to a close.
The spoilers we do have are incredibly short. I guess we won't know more until next week when the official spoilers are released for that week.

This would certainly tie in with the spoiler about JP learning a big secret about James, which helps him understand why he is the way that he is.
On one hand I can't wait to see our guys back on screen together, this drought is already unbearable to me!! On the other hand, the anticipation is a bit ruined by my worry that the developments will be too rushed. From the spoilers, it seems that they are going to concentrate in one week what once (when HO used to be able to tell a proper story) would have taken a couple of months at least.... so much for a slow-burn!!

I know what you mean. On paper these spoilers are fantastic and you know what they may actually translate really well onscreen too. However, because they are such big spoilers in regards to James's development, I worry where the writers are going to go after that. I know what you mean and the most frustrating part is that it's always the character-driven storylines that suffer. HO are quite happy to string sensationalism to ridiculous lengths of time but stories viewers care about are frequently overlooked. That being said they did a good job with cleo's abuse story and alfie/jades cancer story so maybe there is hope for our boys yet.
