Hi Katrina! I remember you from the WFCTGIO thread
![]() BIB: Ditto! James is clearly deeply damaged but this just makes him a far more interesting character. Can't wait to find out why he is the way he is. I really don't like Scott and cannot imagine why on earth they ever paired JP up with him in the first place. As for James, I also like that his relationship with John Paul won't centre on his reluctance to come out. Don't get me wrong some of the 'admitting you love a man' stories have been beautifully told ( McDean, Stendan, Chryed) and it worked exceptionally well. However the story with James gives us something new. None of what's going on inside his head has anything to do with his sexuality. He's openly gay and it's something that's not even factor to him or his family. The barriers that stop him from being with JP or even allowing himself to be human and compassionate all stem from how he was raised. I think that's a very interesting angle and gives the viewers something different and interesting. I also like that James is a lawyer with lots of cash because it's very in line with his character. He strikes me as needing control in all things he does and his profession is very much in line with that. As for JP and other pairings I've caught up up and with some of them on YT and with the exception of McDean all the others left me cold. I thought Ste and JP were really lacklustre and unbelievable. JP and Doug were slightly better but i do think they were put together for the sake of it. The only partners John Paul has had a real fire with was Craig and currently James. As well both actors having a natural chemistry with JP, I think what seperates them is thier characters are more dominating and have a certain hold over JP that makes the viewers eager to see them as couple. I do think that once James lets his guard down, he will love John Paul with all his heart but it won't happen over night. |

I really hope that they don't rush this storyline at all and take their time with it! I enjoy the anticipation and the build up because usually, once the couple get together, I then spend all my time worrying about how long it will be until the powers that be break them up. Nobody in soaps seems to get a truly happy ending. Having said that...I don't want there to be huge black holes and I don't want to have to wait ages to see progress in the relationship. |

And you're right, it's usually when couples get together, it all goes downhill - which is partly one of the reasons why I want tptb to take their time with them. I dont it to be case of getting to the root of James's problems in the space of a few weeks and then bam, together because you just know what brand of stories they're going to be given. If - and this is a big IF (because I don't have alot of faith) - they keep this story character driven and have clear arc planned out, then this has the potential to be brilliant. I use the word potential loosely. Though it's early days so its too early to tell how big the story/characters will be. Given Gregory's comments, everything seems promising so far. I do think Nighingales in general have been a good addition to the cast and if HO is all serious about up and coming change, they need to ditch turning characters into overnight murders and concentrate on family-centric drama. |

Oh god no. I remember with Chryed, we'd wait months for them to appear on screen, only to be seen a few days and then off again for another black hole. That's not the kind of pacing I want with these two.

Are they willing to change gear with this storyline?? I want it to be a storyline that lasts years (like Stendan or Robron), not something that crash and burns in a couple of months. I trust the actors to get it right, I don't trust the writers. |

And this is what worries me the most. In the last few years (since Kirkwood came back) the show seems to have lost the capability to tell a character-driven, long-running story. There has been barely any built-up or logic to storylines or relationship, everything is treated rather superficially.

But they better not do this to us with James and JP.Quote:
I feel exactly the same - which is why I don't want to build my hopes up too high. Does this story have the potential to be great? Absolutely. Do the actors have great chemistry? Sure...but when you look at what writers, producers etc are capable of, we can't be blamed for being pessimistic. Like I said, I'm going to enjoy the ride and I am going to try and not let any 'what could be' spoil my enjoyment too much but I'm not going to be naive about the whole thing either.

I am going in with caution but if they continue to develop as well as they are right now, I can see myself becoming quite emotionally invested. It's all in the writers hands.

I'm too invested now as well, dammit! Does anyone know if there's a link somewhere to James' first scene? Every channel I've seen for him starts after his arrival.

I must admit I'm a bit biased against Craig, as all I really know of him is the way he left John Paul on that bus holding their baby (I will never be over John Paul chasing Craig as he went off and then immediately hooking up with Brendan ). I know they had to get round James Sutton wanting to come back to the show, but ouch they really did a number on Craig to do it!

He is the worst for the longest time, but in the end he gets his sh*t together. It's easier to understand him for those who watched him on HO before JP's arrival and McDean (Craig was in the show for years before that) and understand his psychology and why it's so difficult for him to come to terms with loving a man. Ah, McDean, I loved you so much!!

I know it was strange that after all that craig went to a woman, poor Jp has horrid taste in men, Ste and Scott
JP's choice of men could only go downhill, since Craig was meant to be his "the one" (and if James Sutton hadn't come back, it would have remained so). A bit like Ste with Brendan, everyone after that is not going to live up. (Scott is in a different category, though.... in the joke category). |

Seeing JP being the cheat is odd, but he knows there is more to a relationship than being worshiped, just seemed happier to settle with it than fight James to admit they have something, or deal with Ste and the never ending fun of how he will mess up Though I cant remember does JP know Scott ruined things with him and Ste, as Scott got between them to help foghorn get her claws on Ste |

Scott and JP makes me so cross, but makes sense in an odd way, JP badly wants to be loved, Craig failed doug failed, Danny was married, Loki never got off the ground, they were all hung up on other people, Scott wont cheat on him, whilst hes not a nice persons posioning and kidnapping and setting fire to things hes very obsessed with JP, and you can tell most of the time JP is not keen, he looks put out when in public and Scott is bright orange but he wont be cheated on.

I'm sure at the time he knew that Scott was scheming with Sinead to break him and Ste up, but on HO everyone forgives everyone for anything...like, people remain in relationships with people who killed their parents, people who live with someone who murdered their best friend, people still being friends with someone who stole their partner, etc. Nothing really seems to stick. So Scott helping to break up McHay isn't that bad, in perspective.

To be honest, I can't see Scott staying in the show for too long. With it being over between him and JP and Diane gone, he's going to lack any real purpose. Plus with so many new castings lately I think he will be one of many to go. I predict jade is going to die. Sonia may leave. The fate of the Lomax family seems shaky and nico is a clear gonna. I can see Diego going too. It's inevitable there will be a string of axing/leavers before the end of the year as the cast is becoming so big now. I really don't fancy seeing James once a month. He's the best thing about the show right now.

Ooh, would you be able to advise me on how to set up a proxy? I would love to be able to watch some of the geo locked clips. I don't like having to go on Daily Motion because of the stupid adverts...some of which are two and a half minutes long!

It's easy peasy, all you have to do is type the name into Chrome extensions or Google and download. I use Zenmate and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever and would recommend that one. I saw one called Hola mentioned upthread as well. All you do once you've downloaded is choose which country you want to say you're in (I used to choose the US, but there's a few vids that are US blocked as well so I now opt for Hong Kong).
Good luck. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edit: having a go at installing it on my older and very much slower laptop. |

Good luck. It's always good to look at very early days James. Loved his first scene. Talk about setting the tone.😀 There was also one episode in January where Mac discovers what she and James did to tony and the hutch and he goes batshit crazy at her. I found it interesting that he said he expected it from Marnie but not from James. His face said it all. Then there was an episode in May after JP and James first sleep together. John Paul was touching some mugs on James table to which James got very defensive about. The scene implies that it belonged to someone in James past. Presumably this links into the secret past plot. Me thinks that person died. Yep I'm still going with the morbid death theory. 😑 |
