Ste, Doug and Scott, nope that ship has sailed and what he had with them wasn't a soul-consuming love like he had with Craig.

I think JP and James have the potential to a all-consuming love too, maybe not on the same scale as McDean, but still angsty, passionate and against both thier better judgement, they fall in love.

We see Jp and James as a great couple, so the writers go, no we know who made a great couple, and have JP grovelling back to Scott

I know we blast the writers all the time, but I genuinely don't think this'll happen. I think JP/Scott was deliberately written by the writers as second fiddle to McNight, I honestly do.

I have absolutely no doubt that Scott and JP are over for good. For me it was clear as day when JP ended it with him. It was scripted that way on purpose. The writers put the final nail in the coffin there. It's not going to get revisited.

That one is not out of the realms of possibility and I don't trust KIrkwood as much I can throw him but there is a reason why McHay did not reunite last year. The whole 'meet me at the bridge' if we still love each other speech was done with the intention of keeping the door open on these two. However starry proved popular (at the time) and the show ran with that instead. Now it seems McNight are gaining more momentum with the viewers so it just makes sense to keep them as they are.

I think it's completely plausible for JP to sleep with someone else but it would only be serve as a a plot device for him and James getting together, nothing more.

However the show has gone there with Brendan, doug, JP and now Harry. They've ticked that box with John Paul. I think if Kirkwood is going to pair him with anyone now it will be Ryan.

Correct me if I'm not wrong but was the show going to pair John Paul up with Diego at some point. I remember reading a article ages ago that suggested that. I'm so glad that did not happen. Not only would it have been a new low for JP but can you imagine acting along side him?

I get the impression that with Kirkwood he just plays things by ear. There is no real plan in place to which couples he wants to develope. I have no doubt that JP and Ste for example were meant to get back together last year but because of the success of starry, kirkwood end it (just as well). I also think there was no intention to make a James and JP a real thing. From the first time they got together, it looked like JP was on the rebound from Scott and that with James it was just a lusty fling. However from the second time they hooked up and JP claiming they had a connection, to which James could not argue, I knew the show were going to persue them.

I don't know why but I get he impression that they wait for fan reaction before deciding, which is a bit dangerous, but I guess in this case, it worked well. Though you don't need fan reaction to realise that JP and Scott were never going to go down well.

I think the reason the show struggles to pair Ste with anyone is because he sucks all the oxygen out of a pairing; everything immediately becomes about Ste and his issues. He needs to be paired with a more dominant character who reins that tendency in - I think that's why Stendan worked so well.

I agree there. Ste is whiney, selfish and self-absorbed. When he is with someone who is many ways quite passive and understanding, everything becomes about him, while whoever his partner is at the time, tries to placate him. Its awful to watch. He'll only ever work with someone more dominant. I just hope Kirkwood has no intention of pairing him up with James in the future. It's been a long time coming for JP to find suitable partner after Craig. He deserves this. I hope whatever they have is not compromised for the chosen one. 😑

I don't think they will revisit JP/Scott. I think they know better.

However, I'm a little worried by how serious they want this JP/James thing to be. So far we haven't had interviews or articles suggesting that it's going to be a big thing, a proper love story. As I said before, I think the main storyline is James' abuse, with JP in a supporting role. McNight so far seems to not be the focus, which I get. I just hope that they have plans for them as a proper relationship, with a proper process of development for their relationship, and a satisfying payoff.

I think they will because who else can they try JP and James with? I am sure they brought James in for JP just as they did Robert for Aaron. They really wanted McHay to work but it was so obvious they were not compatible in any way. JP hated Ste and everything he stood for and they put him with Doug who loved Ste. It was just ridiculous. Just as ridiculous to put him with Scott. No one half as intelligent as JP would fall for Scott. It was obvious he never did as he said to Nancy he 'liked' him and to James he made him laugh. Being able to have a decent conversation with your partner is important as well as that physical chemistry.

I hope you are right, but I'm not so sure. The actor playing Scott said that JP/Scott was always planned, from the start. So I'm not sure they brought James in specifically for JP, I think they went with it once they saw that JP/Scott wasn't working and that the audience wasn't having any of it (duh!), and that JP/James actually had potential.

I guess we won't know unless we hear from TPTB.

Anyway, now that they have started it I think they are going to really pursue it, afterall they didn't have to have those intense and heartfelt hospital scenes, and they didn't have to have James say that with time he could feel about JP the way Marnie feels about Mac, if they weren't serious about it.

Hopefully by now, the powers that be, can see how popular they are and will do thier best to develope them as a couple.

I understand your concerns Francy about thier romance taking a supporting role to the abuse plot. I feel the last time there was a real firey chemistry was when James dumped him strangely enough. That scene drew on both thier emotions and it was clear James was ending it because his feelings petrified him. Since then, everything has become about James's past and while I am immensely enjoying it, I don't want 'the love story' part of it to be overlooked.

At this stage, I think I'd actually prefer it if James pushed JP away again, allowing John Paul to maybe hook up with someone else. That may reignite some of that passion and remind audiences why we are rooting for them.

I'm just pleased they haven't got together , especially now, because then it would be game over. I do think James and JP have the potential to be angsty, in spite of James's historic abuse plot, but it all depends on how the writers play it. It's like you say, it would help if we had some interviews from the writers, actors etc. Speaking of which we still have that Facebook Q&A from Gregory coming up. I hope we don't have to wait too long.
