That is typical Hollyoaks innit? So frustrating!

It's mad because apart from John Paul appearing on screen last week, he was absent five weeks prior to that and now we have no idea when he will be back. I know we're not going to see him for the next two weeks at least because I can't see him in any of the spoilers.

Going by the latest spoilers, looks like HO are building up to the big Patrick climax so I suspect this story will dominate in the show in the coming weeks. Having said that, we know Jennifer Medcalf has filmed her scenes for Mercedes wedding a couple of weeks ago so that has to translate on screen in the next 5 weeks at least.

So, basically, this storyline is already going downhill. At this pace, with JP offscreen for so long right after losing his sight, we are not going to see any of his adjusting period, which would have been interesting. Probably when JP reappears he will have worked through the most traumatic/difficult period, psychologically and physically. And soon after that he will get his sight back, no big deal.

I'm starting to fear that this blindness storyline will be a joke like most of the other serious "themes" they tackle on this show (like rape, HIV, etc).

Put it this way, John Pauls blindness story won't be winning awards any time soon. Really it was just a plot device to develope James but I don't think HO have any intention of seeing this through properly. I really suspect they that the next time we see JP he will have his eye sight back within a week, all while Cameron and Nico are planning thier next kill over a months worth of scenes. 🙄

Possibly but I use that word very loosely. I know that James is in tomorrow's episode sharing some scenes with Joanne so whether we get a JP mention, who knows?

I think James may tell her he lost the bet so wants to help her win Joe.

I think Mac's temper will be explored but I think James's secret will be totally separate to that.

I think what ever the secret is, only Marnie knows and I'm betting what ever it is, it happened when they were away from the rest of the nightingale clan.

Me thinks Marnie uses James's past to manipulate him.

I dont understand his relationship with Joanne, he looks as if he knows shes crazy and this isnt right, so why is he helping her? I did find him dissing joe for being "In love with a McQueen" funny and Ironic

Sorry, I know it's offtopic for the thread, but I just watched the McDean scenes where Craig admits to John Paul he wants him and they do it for the first time and then he freaks the FUQ out and I'm actually slack-jawed. That was a masterpiece of acting and writing and just...HOLY SH111T, I now understand why this pairing is still popular nearly 10 years later.

Back to McNight. Yeah, James dobbing Mercedes in is going to be very interesting in terms of his relationship with John Paul. I think James has probably been very good at repressing his emotions or ignoring them in order to get the job done; I hope he has doubts about what he's doing and how it might affect his relationship with John Paul.

James is cunning but he's not without remorse. This is what separates him from his mother.

I can imagine, he'll go into full on gameplaying mode with Joanne this week and try refirm his identity as he 'knows' it. By taking this project, not only is he helping a friend but he is proving his mother right.

However if he sees John Paul consoling his sister and/or John Paul going mad if he finds out, I can see that playing on James's conscience.

When he started hanging around with Joanne I was expecting him to get revenge for her stealing his job, and half of me is waiting for the twist

We assume that McNight is going to evolve into a proper love story/relationship... what if this isn't the writers' intention?? What if it's not going to be anything major?? I would be so disappointed!

Me too but it would not shock me. I think starry got together, and McHay so quickly and none of them i considered a love story. If this is the route HO are going in, I'd rather they got it over and done with. It's all or nothing. I want a good story or nothing at all.

I think that once they see that the interest / support is out there, it may make them rethink it and turn it into a major story. Well I hope so anyway. An iconic couple / love story brings a lot of new fans to a show.

I was surprised to see how many times the James and JP clips on YT have been viewed. Unless you two have been watching on repeat, there are clearly a few more interested people out there

Brendan was a success because the character evolved and I think this is what they are going to do with James. The reason McDean worked was because JP never gave up and fought for Craig. Once he realises James' actions are caused by a damaged childhood he will fight for him too.

And it is this that's giving me a glimmer of hope right now. I get the impression that James will follow in the footsteps of classic male characters like Brendan (HO) and Dennis Rickman (EE) in terms of how much potential they have in the very infancy of thier development. It was clear from very early on with these characters that there was a certain magic they bought to the screen. With James, he's only been onscreen for a few short months and he's quickly becoming a fan fave. Its clear he comes with secrets and a twisted thought-process so HO would be fools not to see a rough diamond when they see one.


I noticed that too. He clearly generates interest from viewers. However it's the past week that his popularity has really inflated and that's all because of HO have developed him organically and Gregorys performance as a actor. If HO continue on this path, then they could really have some thing special.

He definitely has that 'special something' doesn't he? He is just delicious in his wickedness (this isn't the word I wanted to use but thought I would get into trouble with the alternative). I wouldn't like someone like that in r/l but as a soap character he is so watchable. I hope that HO don't spoil him.

Still been thinking about how HO are going to get them back together. I hope JP doesn't just forgive him. I want to see James having to pursue JP and make an effort. I love how supremely confident he is.

Yeah. James really needs to prove to JP that he does care for him and it's going to need a lot of convincing.

The spoilers state that JP is going to find out James secret and that it reveals why James is the way that he is. As excited as I am for this I don't want them together straight after this revelation. Progression yes but not togetherness. However if it happens, it happens. I just don't want to see happy content James like the story is wrapped up. James long after his mothers influence will have to fight his very nature.

I'm prepared to be very annoyed with James (on JP's behalf) tonight, as he tries to help Joanne steal Joe from Mercedes.

I'm very curious to find out how on earth JP even begins to give James the time of day again, let alone forgive him, after everything!!

Even though James was back to scheming today, I did enjoy his scenes and I hope HO don't lose that side to him completely. That's what makes James so compelling to watch. He's a three dimmentional character. The freindship between him and Joanne is genuine, even if shit will hit the fan if/when John Paul finds out.
