Bless him the little dog was really anxious it must have broke James heart to see
His pet so edgy. glad dog recognised him in the end

I'm not a huge fan of pet dogs licking humans lips though.

Why didn't the dog run up to him? Is it a forgetful puppy or just a dim breed?

It was nervous to start with - new place, new people.'

Can't really tell if it is a bichon frise poodle cross, or a miniature poodle like mine - poodles are super intelligent when properly trained.

Watching the dog lick his face & mouth was making me boak! Dogs lick their arse, & they constantly sniff other dog's arses! *shudders*

Lol hardly constantly, human mouths are dirtier than dogs.

I thought it was a lovely moment. He was really sad to see her go.

I don't like the licking thing either, but it hardly makes somebody a bad person, and to me that's what counts.

Lol. Do you know what OP I think I'm with you - that's good enough for me.

The wee dog was clearly delighted to see him but very wary about venturing forward in an unfamiliar environment. They should have used a quiet room with no other HMs. Sweet moment though.

Every opportunity a dog gets it will sniff another dogs arse!

Is a Dog's Mouth Cleaner Than a Human’s?FACT or FICTION?

Here's the answer:

Fiction. This misconception regarding the cleanliness of dog's mouths probably originated from the thought that most diseases are species specific. This means that most communicable canine diseases, with the exception of rabies, do not generally affect humans. While it is true that dog bites are less likely to transmit a communicable disease to a human, they are still quite capable of causing an infection.

Dog's mouths are filled with all kinds of bacteria, depending of course upon what the dog had in its mouth recently. When you consider that dogs use their mouths much like people use their hands, the bacteria counts in their mouths can be quite high. Suppose your dog has been eating fecal material, taste testing a dead animal, licking your shoe, or simply chewing on a stick that has been decomposing on the ground-your dog could have a nice selection of harmful bacteria cultivating within the mouth. Next, imagine that after sampling the world with his tongue, you let your dog back inside only to receive salvia and bacteria smeared kisses over your hands and face. While canine kisses can be sweet, you really should consider washing your hands and face thoroughly before you make yourself that sandwich or rub your eye.

Rubbish I've had dogs for over 30 years it's rare any of them have sniffed a bum, it's only when they meet a strange dog they do it. So kept on a lead I can guarantee they won't.

It's something dogs do, it's the equivalent of a human handshake. No need to be so defensive, I wasn't accusing you of doing it. ROLLEYES

An average dog's nose is anywhere between 10,000 to 100,000 times more sensitive than ours, and smelling each others' butts is just another example of chemical communication in the animal kingdom. It's like "speaking with chemicals," and that's how dogs ask about another dog's diet, gender, and emotional state.

Researchers studying the anal secretions of dogs and wild coyotes discovered that, next to their poppers, canines have pouches called anal sacs, which house the glands that secrete chemicals they use to get to know each other. Amines and acids are the primary compounds involved, and genetics and the state of their immune system can influence the aroma as well.

Dogs also have a secondary olfactory system in their nose called the Jacboson's organ, which is designed specifically for chemical communication. Its nerves lead right to the brain -- so the smell of poo doesn't overpower their sensitive senses.

It was a bit anxious being in there and it didn't seem to realise it was James at first but that is normal and to be quite honest the dog probably has more intelligence and is much nicer and better behaved that quite a few of the Hm's. So it certainly wasn't dim. Dogs are very often a lot nicer than people

That's a shame, doesn't sound like your dogs enjoy much dog/dog socialisation or play then.

Mythbusters once tested the hygiene of a dog's mouth compared to a human.
They took a sample from a dogs mouth, and a sample from Adam's.
There were less bacterial volume in the dogs saliva than the human!
Although they did identify that there were a wider range of bacteria strains in the dog's.

Only a sample size of one, admittedly. It must surely vary by the individual dog and their habits. I'd have thought a dog that is fed raw meet, or eats poop would be hiving. Thankfully neither apply to my dog. I'd worry far more about what I'd pick up from the door handle of a pub toilet than my doggy kisses.

Only someone who has no dog knowledge would ask that question.

Or alternatively someone desperate to find fault with a HM that isn't a trashy RTV moron.
