In light of all the general moaning about the current state of the music industry and the rubbish played on Radio 1 and Radio 1 Xtra, it would be a good idea to celebrate the high quality content provided by the BBC's flagship station. I've discovered all kinds of music that would never be discovered on any streaming website, so you show me yours and I'll show you mine
Here are two recent ones; one very old and one very new.
David McWilliams - Lord Offaly (1972). Anybody old enough can't help but remember The Days Of Pearly Spencer from the same artist, which was played to death on the pirate station Radio London, causing it to be undeservedly banned by the BBC. This track was unearthed by Tom Ravenscroft and is notable for its sympathetic, crystal clear production.

Into - Wolfgang Buttress. Again courtesy of Tom Ravenscroft. I challenge anybody to find a anything more obscure than this hauntingly beautiful ambient soundtrack.

I love the way Tom Ravenscroft's voice just occasionally takes on a resemblance to his old man in the early 1970s
