what makes a great CBB winner?
who, me?
19-08-2016
A 'baddie' who entertains/gets ratings/is compulsive viewing/drives other housemates crazy?
or
A 'goodie' who is quiet, pleasant and ethically strong but doesn't have much presence in the show?

I always feel slightly cheated when a goodie wins, because they often don't do a great deal to 'earn' the win. But I also feel cheated when a baddie wins, because why should someone with such horrible character traits be celebrated for it?

It's a conundrum.

Ummm, tough one.
Some may go for someone that they closely identify with - (Ricky?)..

- Some may go for someone who is principled, not always front and centre, has fun but not in peoples face, has some flaws but a "good" person (Frankie)...

- Some may go for the pure entertainer, who shakes up the house, plays the "game" and also bit of a anti-hero or digs out boring people (Bear)

- Some may go for the "legend" older "star", "icon" regardless of if they do anything (Sam)

But these days it may just always be the person with the most active fanbase that watches and votes on programs like BB.

I hate seeing a winner who is being rewarded for bad behaviour but it is infuriating when those who have done nothing but keep out of any controversy win by default.

To me, a deserving winner was Julian Clary. He was funny, self deprecating and also stood up to dreadful Julie Goodyear telling her that her behaviour was wrong.

The fake-nice dullard who hates nominating is the best sort of winner.

Julian was very quiet in his year, many expressed their disappointment because he wasn't naturally funny. I liked him because he was so different to his stage persona..thoughtful, a gentleman in both senses of the word, and not at all the diva I thought he'd be.

I look for an honest character. I don't want someone whose playing a part. I want them to be team players, considerate to others and not take themselves too seriously. You can always tell the ones who are desperate to win.

someone who entertains and doesn't try to hide away and pretend to be the good guys until the finals and the people who constantly tell everyone what a legend they're to the outside world should never win

I want real! people, entertaining people, even if they're abit of a nob head atleast be real and actually funny...

Good analysis. A shame that the last point tends to win out. It's become a bit like the Eurovision - you know that certain countries will all vote for one another regardless of the quality of the song.

Oh yes, one of the few celeb's on CBB who was perfect for the win and had a story of redemption to put before the British public. Julie was also the perfect star celeb who was a great "pantomime villain". perfect casting that year.....

Totally agree about Julian Clary. I guess he had all the good qualities of a 'baddie' (charisma, wit) AND all the good qualities of a 'goodie' (self-deprecating, kind). Would that there was a Julian Clary on this show. Though Frankie comes close.

Frankie? He does nothing

Our definitions of 'nothing' must be very different!
Frankie has charisma. I love his diary room talks - he is articulate, witty and bright. He also brings fun to an otherwise gloomy and paranoid house. He's talented and is a good influence in the house - unlike Bear, his aim is to bring people together rather than tear them apart. So if that's 'doing nothing', I'm all for it!

He was fairly quiet but when he spoke it was actually worth listening to. I know people who have had dealings with him IRL and he is a genuinely decent human being.

Not something that can be said about any of the current batch of HMs

Oh, don't get me wrong. I was his no 1 fan and spent a lot of time on here defending him from accusations of being boring. He wasn't the life and soul but he was a lovely person.

He was

Something that is sadly out of favour with most of the viewers and interpreted as being boring...

I blame the editors these days. The less extrovert characters were given their fair share of airtime during that series and we got to see plenty of interesting chats. That wouldn't happen these days.

It's the same with IAC - we just get force fed showmances and bad behaviour.

They go to all the trouble of getting interesting people into the jungle and then ignore them
