I am soo confused why people don't like her.

I am in my early 50's & from the same part of the world as Sam. She was brilliant as a Page 3 girl at 16, really liberating us, esp those of us in stuffy convent schools. It was good that her dad managed her & even better when she dumped him, it was more girl power. I had some albums of Sams that I played all the time, she may not have had hits but recorded some great tracks & has talent. this was in the late 80's. I just don't understand why peeps on here slag her off because of her age ???
I second this entirely

youngsters today think they know it all.
They simply have had everything they want stuffed into their mouths with a silver spoon, and are still demanding for more. They need to be taken into the 1970s three day week with 3 tv channels and candle light, when a treat was an extra slice of treacle pudding for being good

Ahh the good old days when 15 year old schoolgirls could get their dad to send in topless photos to a national newspaper, who would then wait for her to turn 16 and then show the nation a topless schoolgirl. Our Sam, girl power!!

I do tend to think that 16 was to young to be doing that type of work in the 80's.
People wouldn't blink an eye now.

I'm with you Scarlett but I don't expect anything different from Bear supporters.
Yes Jean, it looks like the Bear supporters are running scared tonight doesn't it? Trying to put voters off voting for Sam to keep Bear in!

I'm so hoping that Ricky and Sam top the votes tonight! It would be good if James comes good and gets more votes than Bear and Lewis too!

What? you never heard about operation yewtree? or Rotheram? Her dad was touting naked pictures of her from when she was 15. If a 16 year old was to appear topless in a national newspaper today there would be all kinds of uproar.

Not funny or remotely clever,

All I respectfully requested was for an old very revered lady not to be slagged off or disrespected on a fourum.

You haven't done that. All attempts at you at being a smart ar&se have been redundant.

With respect, can you leave it now.
You seriously think Vera Lyn is revered?

Yes.
Must of been something not quite right with her Dad.

It was too young, It was shocking & really it was wrong. But for girls like me of that era it made us proud of our bodies & made our parents a lot more relaxed. We still dressed very conservetory compared to today, but we were allowed to be beautiful young women of 16 not hidden away teens. In my area ( North London) many of my class mates ( well those of Greek Orthodox heritage) left school at 16 to get married. It was the norm. I would never have bared my boobs back then but I did grow the confidence to wear a bikini on Brighton beach

Sam Fox never made any girl proud of their body, they only showed her tits. It was not conservative in the 80s, that was years after punk rock, new romanticism etc. I know North London very well, never knew anyone that left school at 16 and got married, knew loads of pregnant teens, none of them married though so it wasn't the norm. And to suggest that Sam Fox ushered in an era of change for females is ludicrous. I remember the 80s and feminists hated Sam Fox and all she stood for, which was tacky soft porn.

Clearly you never went to a renound convent school then. I was from Southgate & NEVER knew a pregnant teen, not to say there were not any, just not in my neighbourhood.

Southgate is small. Convent schools are few and far between. You made out as if the whole of North London was some repressed place of conservatism. What you should have said was that your tiny circle of ONE convent school in a small part of North London had a number of girls who felt repressed while all around them were not.
I still stand by my statement that Sam Fox was not a force for good when it came to female empowerment and that in fact feminists hated everything she stood for.

She's a national treasure ffs. Haven't you heard, BB have blown the budget on hiring Madness to appear live, and they've agreed to change the lyrics of Our House to "Our Sam". Anything for the nation's sweetheart who sold 30 million and froze her nips off for art.

The notion that fandom is passed down from generation to generation got me

It's "too" young. Jesus - It's only three letters to spell correctly, ffs.

So the only problem you could find about their comment that 16 is too young for a schoolgirl to be showing her breasts in a national newspaper, is that someone spelt 'too' wrong? Just checking.

Never liked her song.

The page 3 stuff was part of the tabloids, though they didn't just have topless girls on page 3 they could be spread throughout the paper, only the big picture was on page 3.

Tabloids are still trash today, just in other ways.
