I don't care about the latest version of Android (all latest releases are as bug ridden as the previous one at the start) but there is no excuse for not providing security patches for phones for at least 3 years after release.
I have an old Moto G2 and that was put on Android 6 a while back but the security patch still shows January this year, nothing since.
Android is shooting itself in the foot with this especially as people are being persuaded to put more and more of their private life on their phones.
