Gemma is a one dimensional (unfunny) comedy stereotype. Kylie was a well developed character. Even before she calmed down, she was a well rounded character that you could take an interest in.

I have no idea on the acting ability of the girl playing Gemma as she hasn't been remotely stretched but, as with all intentionally comic Corrie characters, at the moment I can't stand her.

She doesn't struggle hard enough; she is not even good enough for pantomime.

I couldn't take Becky seriously as her acting always came across hammy, and I actually grew to detest her. How many times did she go on some drunken bender yet we were meant to view her as the poor victim?

Agree with all of this but especially the BiB. IMO Kylie & Gemma are very different characters.

I got to like Becky eventually, although I loathed the way she was always leaping on Steve and wrapping her legs around his waist. - and kissing him whilst chewing gum!

BIB - I literally couldn't agree more. The two actors really did just gel. It's one of the main reasons I'm so sad to lose Kylie. Her and David were just fantastic and had all the makings of a great (even though I still say they already were) Corrie couple, way into the future Such a huge shame to lose all those future possibilities.

I really hope not, especially with the crap she has pulled in the past. But knowing Corrie and their random pairings it may very well happen.

After Callum, I think Kylie was frightened to knock anyone out in case she knocked them out too hard, if you get my drift.

There may be a superficial similarity between Gemma & early Kylie, but I doubt David would ever fall in love with Gemma. Although I took 4 weeks off Corrie viewing as a result of Kylie's exit storyline, I reckon David will always consider Gemma partly responsible for Kylie's death.


I think Kylie getting together with David was the making of her.

What is interesting about Ches & Gemma is that she makes him livelier, while he makes her a bit more respectable.

She reminds me of early Fiz, when she was a teenage loudmouth falsely accusing poor Roy of molesting her! You wouldn't think that now with her & Roy being close now, him being an uncle figure to her and Ches.

Gemma also reminds me of Janice Battersby too, would need more scenes with her & snobby Sally as her feuds with Janice were memorable - like "why don't shave your head like Gollum" - so this could be recreated with Sally looking down her nose at Gemma.

I think she's the new Becky.

Her friendship with Norris and Rita reminds me of Becky's friendship with Roy and Haylie.

Like the way Kylie was introduced to substitute for her departing-sister Becky? Swings and Roundabouts. The cycle continues ...

Give it a year and Gemma will be a completely different character with acting all mature and serious.

I dont know if she's meant to be the 'new' anyone, but is definitely being set to become one of Corrie's often used formula for 'rough woman evolves into warm beloved member of the community' types. Of which Kylie was one. Becky. Maddie. Anna Windass. Its a formula that has often paid off for Corrie so no doubt someone had the idea that rough and tumble Gemma has potential to do the same. Seems to be working so far but we'll see!

the Kylie traits in Gemma are getting more obvious now. she can b really vulnerable, witty and tough/gobby all rolled into one just like Kylie. i really think she is the new Kylie

sadly i think they only see Gemma as a supporting comedy character, so probably won't ever give her her own dramatic storyline, whereas Kylie was more drama than comedy, but had great one liners

But she was and that's why she was so popular.

Kylie was just someone daft enough to marry Platt.

Gemma is her own person.
