And it's not as if they ever taste really good either - but if you go into the 'Taste the Difference' range then obviously you pay even more.

It really annoys me that if you want to eat a variety of slightly more interesting fruit, you have to pay through the nose.

Bananas are constantly cheap, you can get cheap apples and pears and (usually poor quality) oranges, but most other stuff tends to be expensive.”

Find some hedgerow and pick your own blackberries! its the season right now so fill your boots

I you think they were overpriced then... the £2.00 Bleuberry punnet in Sainsbury's has been reduced in size from 200g to 150g - essentially a 25% price hike!

I think nuts (apart from the ubiquitous peanuts) are very over-priced

Well exactly!

(I suppose it's the same argument as bottled water.)

I wouldn't mind so much if they actually tasted of something!

I bought apricots today - absolutely no flavour whatsoever.

Yes, i agree about fresh berries. I do like them but I'm not going to pay £2-3 for a few mouthfuls. I've tried frozen berries but they just aren't the same.

I suppose they are expensive as most are flown in from overseas, they take a lot of manual labour to pick, they are delicate and have short shelf-life so there must be a high level of wastage.

I just wish I liked bananas as they are cheap, good for you and come in handy natural packaging - but I can't stand the smell of them.

To be honest - hardly anything. Maybe bottled water.

My perception is that we have just come through an 8 year period (since the financial crisis) in which there has been astonishing downward pressure on food prices in Asda and Morrisons....and Tesco, created by a combination of the financial climate and the ever growing influence of Aldi and Lidl.

My hope is that British Food producers will now take an even greater role and will somehow dilute the impact of higher imported food prices which are surely coming, unless the pound makes a miraculous recovery....

All fresh fruit and veg has other costs to cover besides the actual commodity.

There are transport costs - obviously they have to be handled and packed carefully to avoid spoiling.

There are labour costs - which, of course, are subject to the governments minimum wage law. The grower must comply with this law and has to price his products accordingly to cover his pickers wages.

Also there are the supermarkets own overheads to take into account.

To be honest, a punnet of strawberries at £2.00 will probably only just cover the above.

The first thing that came to my mind was Pizza, but it seems that has been mentioned by many.

Coffee maybe?

The Krispy Kreme is a good shout. I don't dislike them but they are possibly a bit overrated and thus overpriced. Last week I bought a pack of 5 supermarket own brand jam doughnuts for £1. They were perfectly good and equates to 20p a pop.

You can't tell me a Krispy Kreme is worth 8-10 times more.

33.33...%!

Sorry

Pringles are massively overpriced unless you get them in a special offer. In fact snacks and soft drinks always seem expensive, if you buy them individually.

Some of the wine is overpriced at times, too. I don't know about the others but Sainsbury's regularly have "discounts" on certain wines, frequently enough that I think the "real" price is the discounted price, and therefore on the occasions that it's not discounted it's overpriced.

Gonna say bottled water , abroad it seems much fairer in price , but UK , seems for named brand £1 for 500 millileters, bottled coke is only 40p dearer

I'd agree with that.

I actually can't stand Krispy Kreme. They put something into them that as soon as I eat one I get an almost immediate headache. They all also more or less taste the same regardless of decoration and fillings etc. Not worth the bother.

No other type of doughnut makes me feel ill..

Do Pringles count as food? Or any snack item made of chemicals.

When I was living in Birmingham and buying the 4-5 chillies that I needed for the week at the local corner shop, they would laugh at them sitting in the bottom of the paper bag and throw them in free with the rest of my shopping

That Krispy Kreme became a national phenomenon and an export success is boggling to me. We have other regional chains that make superior donuts. Krispy Kremes are over-sugared and lack individuality.
