Three Current Favourites- One Dislike
Who are people's current favourite characters and the one they most dislike in each soap they watch. I ask because I notice my opinions changing considerably at the moment in regards to a lot of characters and there has been lots of casting news and movement this week. What makes you like those characters- their storylines, or a general loyalty or their position in the show?

Emmerdale Charity She's not one dimensional. There are different layers to her character in my opinion, she can be manipulative, cruel and devious, but genuinely cares for her family (she has a great relationship with Belle) and also has a sense of humour (love her one liners) Chas She's made her fair share of mistakes and wasn't the best mother to Aaron, but I feel really sorry for her, she's been through a lot and suffered PTSD as a result, and finding out that her son was raped by his Dad when he was little must of been very traumatic for her. I think the character is a nice person at heart and means well, wants to protect her family etc. Carly ly Again, a part of me feels sympathy for the character of Carly, after suffering the loss of her child. I also like her because she is VERY attractive. ![]() Dislike Joanie Obvious reasons (Those that watch the show will know)

Eastenders:
Babe Smith: Fantastic Villain and played by a brilliant actress! Ben Mitchell: Interesting Character and he is also good looking. I do feel sorry for him though. Martin Fowler: Nice Guy, Good actor and Good looking. Dislike: Mick Carter: Dire Dyer makes every scene he is in unbearable. HM to Elaine Peacock but as she's recurring I had to put Mick. |

I'd probably have to go for the power three of EastEnders if I'm honest who are Sharon, Phil and Ian. Three fabulous characters who have helped to shape the show. As for dislike, there are a few characters who annoy me, but only one I cannot stand and that is Jack the plank Branning. |

Emmerdale Finn Barton A nice genuine guy who is gay without making a big deal about it. Very enjoyable to watch and is funny and sweet while also being really attractive. Can do well with biggee storylines when he gets the chance. Chrissie White A fantastic villain and it's great to see her come out on top after being on the bottom for so long. Felt a lot of sympathy for her with all the stuff that's happened before and now rooting for her to have her revenge on all those who wronged her. Ross Barton Super attractive. Really funny, love his sarcy nature and getting one over on Charity before. Look forward to more of his capers and love his relationship with Finn. Dislike Robert Sugden Just cannot warm to him. The way he walks around like he's done nothing wrong and his complete personality overhaul at the beginning of the year makes him feel incomplete as a character. I hope Chrissie takes him down when he goes after her. |

Corrie:-
Favourites: Maria.....A character I have loved since her very first appearance, who has grown up on the show in a realistic & believable way!! That's what I love, she's real & I can relate to her, reminds me of a lot of female friends I have had over the years! The fact she's also drop dead gorgeous is a happy bonus!! Plus I love the actress who plays her and her unbridled enthusiasm for all things Corrie!! David.....Brilliant, multi layered & never predictable character played by an actor who has never ever disappointed with his performances!! Leanne.....Another character we have seen grow up & develop on the Street from wild child to family woman!! Just wish they would stop all this toing & froing with Nick & get her a guy she could actually have some fun with for once!! I miss the mischievous fun side to Leanne's character!! Played by the best actress they've got imo!! Special mentions to Roy, Audrey, Tim, Sarah, Bethany & several other great characters!! Least favourite: Tracy.... One dimensional, utterly boring character who has undergone not one shred of development in the 14 years since she returned to the show!! Apart from that she should still be in prison serving the remaining 8 years of her LIFE sentence!! For the record Sally is fast catching up as one of my least favourites, a nasty, judgemental bitch who thinks she's better than everyone else & for some reason we're all supposed to find it hilarious!!

Coronation Street:
Todd Grimshaw - the best character in the soap, multilayered, kind most of the time but also has a vengeful streak, passionate relationship with Billy, lovely friendship with Sarah, and a great history as a character with being the first gay in Corrie. Tyrone Dobbs - really like him as a character, liked him when he was younger and felt really sorry for him with Kirsty. Sally Metcalfe - I know I shouldn't but I love her snobbery! Dislike - Sophie Webster - one-dimensional character who is just horrible. EastEnders: Jay Brown - such a kind character, especially with his interactions with Ben, it's such a shame he's been caught up in all that he has. Johnny Carter - again, a kind character who has ambition and works really well with lots of characters. Sharon Watts - the matriarch of the family, strong willed and always looking out for others. Dislike - Sonia Fowler/Tina Carter - a boring pairing who could easily be wiped from the show/ |

EastEnders
Stacy Slater. Played by the best young actor we've ever had on the show. Her mental health stories have been well written and beautifully played. Her relationships with both Bradley and Martin have been great favourites of mine. Shirley Carter. Another fine actor. A complex and damaged woman. Equally good in drama or comedy....very watchable. Denise...So underused, but when she's given the right material she is fabulous to watch. Her new relationship is wonderful. Least...a cheeky two. Phil and Ma Mitchell. Sick of the sight of them, they're never off my screen. |

Coronation Street....
Love : Todd : My absolute favourite soap character. I think Todd has had great character development this year and the recent scenes between him and Sarah and his showdown with David have been excellent. Also the Todd/Billy pairing works really well and they have amazing chemistry. I love that he is a genuinely complex character - devious, funny, sometimes childish, charismatic, manipulative, clever, flirty and at times downright adorable. (Plus Todd has made me really warm to Tracy lately too) Tim : I think Tim is an absolute joy. Love his one-liners and he is a character that has a real likability factor. He also works really well with other characters - him and Sally are a great partnership and I adore his friendship with Steve. A really natural and easy to root for character. Steve Although I'm not loving the baby nonsense at the moment I'll always have a soft spot for Steve. I think he is one of the funniest characters in soap and I love him working alongside Tim in the cab office. Also he loves his dog! (Notable mentions : Nick, Sarah, Sally, Eileen, Leanne, Tracy, Gemma, Craig & Roy) Dislike : Izzy : Terrible. Such a boring character and a truly awful actress. I have to fast forward her scenes and I find it hard to believe that her and Gary would have ever got together. (notable "ugh" mentions : Anna, Sean, Caz, Sophie, Aidan, Rana, Fiz) |

Forgot Todd, he has developed into another of my favourites but only recently since they've married up old Todd & that awful male version of Tracy that returned from London into one well rounded & fascinating character!!
Like Ty too though until they split him from Fiz, he will probably never be a favourite again!! |

Emmerdale- Charity- she has many layers to her, she can be manipulative and devious but cares about her family and find her funny
Robert- similar to Charity and think his character has developed Carly- i didn't like her at first but i feel sympathy for her and her character as developed and grown on me. Dislike- Chrissie thinks it ok to play god and ruin peoples' lives etc just because she been hurt etc and continually protects and excuses her sex offender son's actions etc. |

Emmerdale
Charity- Simply a fun, camp and highly watchable character. It's been nice to watch her come back and show a more caring side while still being the scheming oportunist Lachlan - Thomas Atkinson is brilliant in the role. I usually hate young actors, especially when given hard hitting storylines but he has performed exceptionally. He brings a creepy, twisted vibe to every scene he's in, but is also successful in portraying Lachlan as lonely, awkward and...almost sympathetic. Cain- He's Cain Dingle. Dislike Robert Smugden- I enjoyed him as the villain but they seem to have whitewashed the character in order to give him some longevity. He's just a smug git tbh and I hope Nu evil darth Chrissie destroys him |

I loved Tyrone and Maria's initial relationship when he proposed on Blackpool Tower, it was so innocent and I liked how they connected over their love of dogs, something you wouldn't see these days.
I actually liked much of their second stint together as well after Maria settled down & decided to make it work!! They would never have lasted then though!! I would happily see a reunion now as they are both older, wiser & pretty much want the same thing from life while still being completely different personality wise!! Ty & Fiz just don't do it for me even though I don't particilarly hate Fiz like many on here, I actually liked her in the early part of her relationship with John, they were different enough to make their chemistry interesting as are Ty & Maria!! Ty & Fiz are just too much alike to be interesting or have any real chemistry for me!! |

Emmerdale:
Like: Aaron Dingle: he has always been my favourite. Right now it's nice to see a more lighthearted, happy, sarcastic, funnier side to him with less doom and gloom. Loved seeing him in scenes with the Dingle family last week. That should happen more often! Charity Dingle: I've been surprised how much I've enjoyed Charity since she come back from prison. I think putting her and Chas in partnership in the Woolpack was a stroke of genius. Charity's humour and one liners brighten up an episode.. Robert Sugden: His character right now is better than it ever has been in my opinion. Some of the panto villain storylines he was involved in before were ridiculous. I like how he is a normal character with a bit of an edge. He'll do anything to protect those he loves. I also can't help but love the smugness.. Dislike: James Barton: I dislike a fair few characters but right now James is the worst! The way he interfered in Cain and Moira's relationship and stirred up trouble between them simply because he clearly still wants Moira was disgusting. Irritating, boring character! I hope he has an affair with Moira simply to unleash crazy Emma and Cain on him. Now that would be fun to watch! |

Eastenders:
Like Johnny- A decent, moral, and relatively normal guy. I just wish they did more with him. Jay - Most of the same reasons, I feel sorry for him and the situation he has been thrown into Roxy - I like her character and am sad that she will be going, but I think its better that she goes out on a high than be subjected to another love triangle or another cycle of dating a bad guy and Ronnie trying to protect her. HM: Stacey - I like her character but I worry that the only storylines she ever seems to get are mental health awareness stories or love triangles. There's so much more they can give her. Dislike: The Beales: All of them (barring Steven as he's a Wicks) - they're actions have been tainted and it'll take a lot to actually redeem them. I can't relate to them or their storylines anymore. The worst thing is when I first started watching the show in 2013/2014 they were my favourite family - Lucy being one of my favourite characters. To see the Beales reduced to such a small number and as morally repugnant characters (look at what happened at Christmas for instance) - they make the Mitchells seem like saints. |

I watch CS, EE and ED so there is a bit to this
CS I like Tim- He is a wonderful character, and a joy to watch, love him and Sally. Gail-I like Gail think she is great, at both comedy and Drama. David- The best character in the show by far, so many layers to him, hope he stays for many more years to come. I dislike Izzy- Hope she is killed off, nasty vile bitch. EE I like Martin- Did not like him to begin with, like him now, very good actor. Stacey- Great character but boring atm. Phil- Phil is great, you can't beat Phil. I dislike Jane- She is scum! ED I like Cain- Great character, with a lot of layers. Ross- a bit boring atm, but a great overal Character. Charity- I find her so sexy, you can't beat her, Maybe one day she will be on my arm? I dislike Joanne- Very annoying, and she destroyed the show's best couple. |

Took a while to decide my own for this but will start with Eastenders.
1) Martin- I was initially so against this recast having spent much of my youth watching JA in the role, and it wasn't received well by anyone at first however this is one decision the producers got really very right. JB has a great presence and pairing him up with Stacey has worked well to bring him into the show more. I would now view him as a central character- he has so many links to each family that make him work well. (Kush, Sonia, Ian, Kathy, Stacey). I also believe he has great scope to tell stories with, there are so many different directions he could be taken- and id now like to see him given some leading material as opposed to being a foil for everyone else. I think he could do with being featured a lot more. 2) Jay Mitchell. I absolutely loathe the direction they have taken him this year after being excited that he was getting a story. The actor is very capable, but the producers seem to struggle to know what to do with him. I love the seeds being planted of him and Ben branching out from the Mitchell's and becoming a team within their own rights. The pair work well together and this has the potential to spawn so many stories. I do fear he is at risk of the axe being weilded - and would rather that happened than people go down the route of him and Ben becoming lovers as has been touted so many times previously on here- but with some imagination the writers could easily make him a star of the show. It will take some work to undo the carnage that has been created however, so it depends if they believe he is worth the risk. 3) Denise. Diane Parish is a foxy lady! She carries herself with grace and has the acting ability to pull off any story requested of her. The problem is again there doesn't seem to be a clear direction. As a Middle aged woman there is a lot of scope for what she could do and the recent dramas she has had with Jordan and JJ , her alcoholism, and her (almost) abuse of Patrick suggest that she has the acting capability to pull a big storyline off. For me the issue is the stories peak too soon when there is plenty of mileage in them- instead of a half baked attempt to break Lucas out of Jail I would have loved to see her helping Jordan find a path of redemption. I am however rather impressed with her dalliance with Kush and would like to see this develop- she works so well with a younger lover, I also enjoyed her and Fatboy. The biggest thing that would help all of these characters are stronger friendship and making them a more focal point of the show in my opinion. There are lots of stories which can be told- but they are generally always left as secondary characters. My dislike might be a little bit controversial but Phil and more specifically the Mitchell family. I feel like the producers constantly live in the past with these characters. The storylines go round in circles in a bid to recreate former glory. Roxy and Ronnie as evidenced by recent decisions have been neglected for a long time. Sharon has had a pointless arc with Gavin. I also didn't find Peggy's death as big a deal as it should have been. For me personally I feel like I've moved on. Phil however is the absolute worse. Yes there is no denying Steve is a brilliant actor- but the character never learns and never develops. Alcohol. Crime. Mistreatment of Ben and Jay. It just feels stagnant to me - and tying in on my likes I feel the scope is there far more now to make Ben and Jay the forefront of this family. Sharon could with work still be great but Phil in my opinion has had his day - as has Billy! They just really need to find a new direction for the Mitchell's and develop the characters into key players again. |

Emmerdale.
Favouties. Diane. She was a natural as landlady of The Woolpack; I would like to see more stories of her in the B & B Cain. A loveable rogue Ashley. His portrayal of somebody with Dementia is very well acted. Unfavourite. Tracey. Every time the camera pans to her, standing with her mouth wide open, I fastforward. |
