Nokia Asha 201 - is charging from usb possible?

Hi,

I have a Nokia Asha 201. It comes with a non-usb mains charger but it also has a USB connection.

I have tried charging from 3 different usb chargers and it won't recognise them. Does this mean the phone cannot use usb based chargers or is it something I need to change on the phone itself.

Thanks
J

The manual (available here) makes zero mention of being able to charge via USB, rather USB is only mentioned in terms of a method of connecting the phone to a computer.

Do you connect the USB to wall socket or computer?

If it has a charger then that is a clue that it cannot charge by USB.

If you think about it for a second or two then surely the penny should drop.

If it was able to be charged via the USB socket why would Nokia waste their time fitting a separate DC socket for charging? There would be no point doing so.

Though it is strange that they do have a separate charger socket as it seems the charger is 5V @ 450mA which would be compatible with the USB spec. So in theory it could have been designed to use USB charging but for reasons best known to Nokia they decided not to.
