One thing I've always wondered is why does almost every actress I've seen in a Bollywood film sing in a high pitched squeaky voice?!
For example, take Priyanka Chopra. Here she is singing her (non-Bollywood) song "In My City" (with Will.I.Am) She has a regular sounding voice here. Normal tone, nice voice.

I've heard a couple of other pop/dance songs by her and she sings them in the same natural sounding tone.
However, check her out singing the song "Pinky", from a Bollywood movie called Zanjeer.

She's singing in the typical high pitched squeaky voice that so many other women in Bollywood films sing in! Why is this? Are all female Bollywood stars expected to sing in unnaturally high-pitched voices? Is it the norm for grown Indian women to sing like little girls? It seems a strange trend to me. Why don't they sing with regular pitched vocals when their voices are clearly much lower key naturally. Just curious!
