Why do they make such a big thing out of Sam being competitive? The boys slap each other on the back for being competitive, but if a girl is competitive it's a terrible character flaw. Why don't they like girls being competitive?

She was doing what she was supposed to do and she got attacked for it. She didnt have the hump until he pushed her to have the hump.

Great point OP. It is simply a way of putting Sam (in this case) down. Nothing wrong with females being competitive.

It wasn't a fair competition; the competition should have been held in synchrony.
She had to go first, then wait for Marnie to beat her goal, at that point the marshmellows were already falling out of her mouth. |

Because the men in the house aren't particularly modern in their views of women.

Someone said this on BOTS t'other night didn't they?
Yes, it's celebrated in men, disapproved of in women. Cue some big debate about sexism..... |

First of all, it's not all "the males", it's Lewis and Bear. They aren't on good terms with Sam. They were cheering Marnie's competitive spirit/success.
As they never stop saying in there, it's a game—Lew and Bear were as leery of each other as competition too, they just wouldn't verbalize it or overtly attack each other due to their "friendship". However, Bear did plenty to subtly and not so subtly undermine Lewis anyway. To sum it up, the reason they attack Sam is because they dislike Sam. Sam made it easy to pick at her self-professed competitiveness, so they did. |

Lewis and Bear are like characters out of a Carry on film, in fact, until Chloe went out, it was just like a carry on film....bear even sounds like Barbra Windsor.
