I really don't like that the Big Top 40 are now way behind schedule by the time they get in the top 10 forcing them to cut short all the songs in the top 10. They even inserted an extra ad break making things even worse. They don't play the top 10 in full like they used to.
Playing the top 10 twice in one show is stupid. I listened to the show for first time in a while at the weekend and quite enjoyed it, but I switched off once it got into the top 10 because they were playing the same songs again - and even if I had cared who was going to be #1 on the made-up chart, they'd already spoilt it at 5pm when they ran down the live top 10 then. The chart never changes between 5 and 6pm so there is no drama in the reveal.

Very odd indeed. Spire didn't have any issues, nor did Eagle or any others apart from Rock FM, which you mentioned, as far as I can see. Not sure about other Bauer stations. Don't know how this could've happened, as Rock/Bauer stations take the show by IRN 3 I believe. And there was no Capital London ident on the satellite feed, as I was listening and Spire/Eagle definetley carry the show by IRN 3 as I've seen their Zetta logs.
It was very odd about Rock fm because they where playing to ids on top of each other.

It went out on both GEM 106 and Free however didn't on the other two Bauer stations I tested

Also on a side note Free Radio's ID fired on Free Radio but GEM's didn't on theirs during the intro to Big Top 40

With Gem and Free the feed goes through BrindleyPlace then split out to the other former orion frequencies from there currently. This will of course change in the not too distant future to bring in line with the other City 1 Stations. This would explain hearing free identify on Gem and not the other way round

It looks like Gem playout system IS not recognizing the IRN frequency then because it looks like the presenter is fading it up manually rather than the playout system doing the IRN 3 ON MARCO:

What happen's if the Big top 40 overran would the IRN 3 Channel cut it off or would all the other stations that take have technical problems?

If the Big Top 40 overran on IRN3 it would go to IRN3 tones at 18:59:30 and switch over to Wireless Group at 18:59:45. However, this wouldn't matter on the majority of stations whose playout systems switch the satellite feed on/off on a schedule and fire the next event. It would cut out at whatever time they have the BT40 set to switch off.

Spire FM's log looks like this:

15:59:50 News In
15:59:55 IRN ON
16:02:00 IRN OFF
16:02:00 Pause
16:02:01 CHART ON

17:00:00 Pause

18:00:00 Pause

18:59:00 CHART OFF
18:59:01 TOH Default (No Donut)

Indeed, the macro tells the playout system what code it's looking out for, and when that code is detected the localiser is fired.

As New Years Eve is a Saturday, they could do a special chart of the year 4-7 and a normal rundown on NY Day.

They could do that. They did that back in 2011

Next week, I could record the full switch over on IRN 3. The Wireless Group network show end, followed by confidence tones and the end of the Capital London show, Marvin's 1/2 minutes and the start of the show.
Will anybody be doing this today or can they?

On Bauer stations this afternoon it's sounding like the Top 40 is coming from underwater this afternoon. Very odd.

The Hits went quiet and it seems to have gone to backup tape

Yeah. There is track info which is odd. So I don't think it's the backup tape unless it comes from the studio.

The local ID's were firing as normal. It's obviously a problem with the feed.

Seems okay now.

Thanks for these, you didn't manage to catch the local ID firing on the Bauer stations did you? I was trying to, but there wasn't one after I started recording.
