CONFIRMED: Big Top 40 will be on Christmas Day. Just awaiting a response on the presenter.
Any clarification on 'Chart of the Year?'

I think 2017 will be an interesting year for the Big Top 40. A lot of stations, especially UKRD, seem ready to drop the show. Star Radio, Wessex FM, 2BR, Yorkshire Coast and all their other stations apart from Spire, Spirit, Eagle, KLFM & Sun FM no longer take it. The show is, quite frankly, a Heart & Capital show. It doesn't add anything to their output.

Pirate fm take the show too although Spire, Spirit, KLFM, and sun fm, egeal still take it, I though Wessex, 2br and Yorkshire Coast radio don,t take it any way, as it stands 145 station's take it, I wonder why some stations are dropping it?

Also most stations are locked in a contract with IRN till 2018, the Big top 40 is also contracted till then too.

Some stations have dropped it to take a xmas day syndicated show which is a one off. Bauer, Wireless Group, Media Sound Holdings, Nation, Qudem Mids stations are still taking the chart as normal.

Will 2018 be the year when BT40 relaunches? It's coming up to its 9th year and the 2009 format is tiring IMO.

Oh yes forget about Pirate. The Big Top 40 doesn't add anything to their output. The majority of music doesn't fit the UKRD, nor the Anglian, Adventure Radio, Nation Radio, Lincs FM Group, and a lot of stations who take the show's playlist. Also, it's there for the money on most stations which is a fairly small amount compared to what Global are getting for it.

And another reason for UKRD to drop it, they are not part of Radiocentre which is basically dominated by Global, Bauer & Wireless Group. The Big Top 40 is a big part of Radiocentre.

Could well be. Hopefully it'll relaunch with better known names hosting it, and as an entertainment show. Not a chart show. The way the Big Top 40 chart operates, like it or not, is pretty pathetic. Numbers 40-11 are basically made up, and the Top 10 at the end of the show means that any songs that've dropped out of the live top 10 before 6 on Sunday but sold well during the week don't chart! So they slide them into numbers 11, 12, 13 etc (depending on how many tracks have dropped out), and that means if a song they play on the radio at No.27 will get shoved lower down on the archive. Very odd.

That's true. It also sounds identical to Capital with that creepy voice over. It should sound completely different and have different hosts

Your right, Radiocentre is a big company but at least some UKDR stations are taking the show.

I don't think that will happen, as it's on usual time on Sunday and the switch over failiure was most likely due to it being their first week in the new studio and an unforeseen error with the link to Arqiva. Merry Christmas to you too and everyone here, and have a great New Year!

I doubt he'll come back to the show. I think Marvin will stay on for at least another year.

As I said a few days ago, UKRD are waiting to drop the chart from their remaining stations who take it. Eagle appear to have non-stop music from 12pm throughout the whole day tommorow. Not sure if this is just because it's Christmas, or a starting point for them dumping the show all together.

Ah cool. Currently, they're running down the 10 biggest songs of the year. There's no Chart Of The Year next week.

You know, I'm not 100% sure BT40 is live today. Marvin's only saying the song names, not what number they are. Honey G isn't even in the top ten and they keep mentioning her. Someone is obviously playing everything in and managing the Twitter, hardly any local ID's and everything seems all over the place. Why are they playing the Breakers thing now? He's not hitting the vocal with the numbers either.

Of course it's not live. Do you really think anyone will be listening today? I highly doubt it!

Definetley VT'd. No mention of the song at No.2 and Kat saying 'it's between this lady' and a clip of the song. That's not usually how they do it.

Absolutley! It was possible, as I thought it was going to be interactive like usual as that's how the show works. I was surprised to see Marvin was still on and this explains it. You're right.

They might aswell voice track it every week, doesn't add anything tbh.
