I have just looked at the schedule on Heart and see that Bassman is presenting the show this week, it describes the show as counting down to the first Number One of 2017 so will it be a chart of the year or just the first chart of 2017 counted down?.
No full 40-1 chart of the year for 2016. They did a top 10 rundown on Christmas Day to replace the 5PM top 10 update as the show was recorded.

How do you know? Surely Marvin would do it if it was VT'd?

He normally does time checks when the show is live.

First George Michael song in the chart, at No.38 it's his collab with Elton John. Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

I really like Bassman covering the chart, bit of an odd choice as he isn't a big celeb name, and when he introduces himself its just "alright, bass here with the Big Top 40", surely people who listen on Key or City aren't gonna know who Bass is?

He's got the air of Doctor Fox and the pepsi chart about him though, a good replacement!

It was a good show this afternoon. I'm not a Marvin fan at all and I didn't expect to like Bassman either but I was pleasantly surprised.

The other surprise of the afternoon was how low the George Michael songs appeared. I expect the three songs sounded rather out of place on some stations like Capital and Bauer City 3/ The Hits.

It was stated earlier in the thread that today's show was voice-tracked but I'm not so sure. Bassman gave a fair amount of information on the chart positions and the change from last week which added something to the show as a whole.

Why doesn't he just use his real name? A man in his 40's calling himself Bass strikes me as a little odd

Christmas Day's show was VT'd, it was live yesterday. That's why Marvin & Kat didn't mention the chart positions for the top 10. He also gave the 2 minute/1 minute signals on the satelitte feed whereas on Christmas Day a producer did it. I agree with you, it was a good show yesterday.

I agree. Especially on the UKRD/Lincs/Quidem & Anglian stations, even Heart for that matter, having some guy called The Bassman come on is far from ideal The name would only really make sense to regular Capital listeners.

I heard was that it was Richard Park's idea - he said one day 'from now on you are going to be known as The Bassman' - and that is what has happened.

I too listened last night and also thought just how much Bassman's voice sounded similar to Dr Fox, I wonder if he will take over The Big Top 40 at some point. Who knows maybe this year?.

I also thought at times he sounded as if he was not too well and had a bad throat.
