Do stations get paid a decent amount of money to take this show?
I would imagine radio stations are payed a significant amount of money, by Vodafone for the advertising, based on their audience. This is my guess as to why the Heart network take the show, the biggest commercial radio network in the country. The vast majority of the music played doesn't fit their usual output, and there will only be say 10 songs played maybe less that they have in their playlist.

UPDATE - Big Top 40 Twitter says Marvin & Kat are on as normal today. Don't know why TuneIn description's been updated to say Matt, perhaps he's on next week and it was updated early? Not that TuneIn is one's main source of information for who's on air anyway.
That's odd must of been an error on Tune in

The Sattalite singal was breaking up on Radio City yesterday during the Big Top 40 show with 5 seconds of the emergency tape 10 mins into the show, however all was back to normal after.

Hmm, very strange. Perhaps the 'IRN 3 On' Macro failed to fire. Or maybe they didn't have a satelitte signal. They don't have a localiser, so the emergency tape wouldn't have cut out every 5 minutes or so which is lucky!
On the touch fm website its says that the big top 40 show is on this Sunday.

Interesting, when listening to the Wireless Group network feed before the Big Top 40 the pitch was bending a bit. It sounded as though the 'Playing More Of The Music You Love' sweeper was auto tuned for a second.

Shame the Bauer City 1 station's LA doesn't work. And also its ashame Rewind Radio is always down! I spent ages adding the Big Top 40 stations to the list incase of another satelitte fail like that of Sunday 8th May. Digital Spy blew up that afternoon!

Thanks for letting me know about Rewind Radio working again today, let's hope it works in future.

Bauer's stations streams are geo-locked so I couldn't add them to Rewind, they should introduce listen again for their City 1 stations, but the fact of the matter is apart from us and even that's only in times of technical problems, the average listener wouldn't listen again to a whole show just to hear some random DJ playing Katy Perry!

How come they don,t have a listen again feature on their stations, slightly off topic what networking softwear do Bauer use?

I'm not 100% show but I do know they use IP to network like Global do for their networked programming. I believe this is an MP2 system.

Wireless Group use IRN 3.

As I said I would've uploaded them to Rewind Radio but they're Geo-Locked.

Global's stations also cannot be added to Rewind so presumably they are geo-locked too.

I also noticed that Cool FM has a listen again section; but no Localiser for the Big Top 40? Considering Bauer's City 1 stations do, this is particularly strange? Perhaps they don't have one in the system, or no Demux Box as they don't take IRN news as far as I'm aware.

Thats odd, so at 16.02, they must fade up IRN 3 manually then, rather than the computer doing it, because if there is a technical problem, the emergancy tape won,t cut out every 5 mins.

Yes it could be that, because the local ID recognises a command from the Demux Box, which tells it to fire off. The command recognition is programmed through the 'IRN 3/Chart On' Macro in Zetta, or whatever playout system is used.

Matt Wilkinson is on the chart this Sunday, JJ is taking care of the Capital Throwback Hour 7-8 which is what I assumed would happen. Probably pre-recorded.

I've only ever used Zetta / EncoDad before. Great pieces of kit.

Celador use Zetta now; used to have Master Control. Most stations who now have Zetta will have probably used NexGen or Master Control.

Christmas Day is on a Sunday this year, as is New Years Day. It will be interesting to see what happens with The Big Top 40.

I noticed there was a chart archived for NY Day and Christmas Day in 2011; anyone know if a show took place as normal/was cancelled/was changed in anyway for either of these days?

Yes it will be on Christmas day and New Year's Day, it could be presented by Matt on both days. And yes there was an Archived chart back in 2011, what happened was the Big top 40 show started at 1pm so the local shows on capital, heart, UKDR,BAUER, wireless group finished early.

Thanks for the info, was the show still 3 hours so from 1 until 4? Was there any kind of Christmas imaging or Christmassy feel to the show?

I know it's still a while ago, but I'm very excited to see what'll happen this year.

Having the Big Top 40 on XMAS Day is a good idea as it fills a programming slot. Did it start at 1 both days?
