Think it is almost impossible to ignore him. They are liviing in a relatively small area from which they cannot leave for a 'time-out'. He is noisy, so even if you are in a different room, you will still hear him. And he is a continuous irritant throughout the day, so there is a cumulative effect. \Even if they ignore one event, he dreams up another
Personally, I wouldn't have lasted a day in there with him
