If Bear Wins, It'll Be Just As Bad As Helen Wood's Win

It wouldn't bother me if he won as much as Helen winning did. There's no prize, no life changing money, rarely any career prospects. I can't see him getting any advantage out of winning...he'll be next weeks chip wrapper.

But he hasn't called anyone names

He hasn't really singled anyone out. He hasn't called anyone slugs-worth or compared them to rapists.

I think he's at least as bad is a different way.

I never said that people "approve" of his behaviour. I never said that people can't separate reality TV from real life. What I'm asking is why do some people think it's okay for him to behave like that to his HMs, when they'd more than likely hate it if he did it to them? It's double standards.

Yes, I too have been quite stressed watching him. I can't relax when he's on screen and it's quite exhausting.

Very true. He has destroyed this years show for me.I absolutely find everything about him repellent. He is getting more disgusting looking by the days.

I'm not a Bear fan, but I would say he's nowhere near as bad as Helen.

Bear gets pleasure from winding people up and seeing them annoyed, but Helen got pleasure from isolating people and driving them to have a genuine breakdown. She also used far more personal and nasty attacks (such as someone's physical appearance) than Bear has.

I would say Heavy D displayed more similar behaviour to Helen than Bear has.

Bear is a tw*t, but Helen was a genuinely awful human being without a single redeeming quality.

You don't even realise you're doing it, do you?

'Approve of' / find acceptable. Potato / potahto. The effect is exactly the same.

Bib - because this is a TV show. Not real life.

Can you separate the two? Most people who appreciate Bear can.

Double standards? You bet your life! One for watching the telly - which doesn't matter, and one for real life - which does.

I really do hope he wins.the elitism and snobbery against him and his supporters has been dreadful.just checked the betting odds and his odds are shortening .all other HMs are drifting .will depend on the edit tonight .personally hes made this series for me .what would it be without him .a gang of miserable self entitled dullards taking themselves too seriously.Bear to win.

The moral superiority comes from the suggestion that the person who does not share this opinion is not as aware of social niceties as those who do hold this view. Your somewhat diluted view that people who share this opinion 'don't like seeing people unhappy' is still the same thing.

People who do appreciate Bear have often argued that this is a game show, for entertainment purposes, and all the HMs are in there of their own free will. But that has never cut any ice - it is not accepted that you can be a perfectly decent person in real life, but enjoy a little bit of Bear's evil mischief on the telly.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.”

'Moral superiorty'? That sounds like baiting talk to me.

So, are you basically saying that because he's doing it on a TV show, then that's perfectly okay? Would you be saying that if a close family member or friend was in there with him and he was goading away at them? With all due respect, I don't think you would, so in my eyes, him doing it on a TV show doesn't make it okay.

And it is real life for them. They may be on a TV show, but it's real life for them because they're all living together under one roof 24/7. That is how they are spending their lives until they're evicted.

We don't know that they'd be "miserable self entitled dullards take themselves too seriously". As I've said before on here, all we are seeing is Bear with everyone else as basically a back-up cast. In any case, we know what BB is like nowadays, so they would have undoubtedly come up with some other way of stirring the pot.

I totally agree.....Helen Wood was the absolute pits....There is no comparison between her and Bear......I agree that Bear has been an Ar****le at times but nothing compared to her...she was Vile - I couldn't even stand to watch her !!!

I genuinely think he is just a young bloke who is bored and trying to carve out some kind of showbiz path for himself by getting as much airtime as possible. Without doubt he is playing a game in the house IMO , and don't get me wrong at times he has crossed the line (when he threw something and smashed the glass) , however I'd say for the most part his behaviour has been purely to get a reaction out of other housemates. Whether we like it or not alot of these shows are built around conflicts, if everything was rosey it would be dull as dishwater and thats why people like bear are cast into the series. I genuinely do not believe he is nasty, and in terms of who deserves to win well I personally wont be voting but if Bear does win I think it reflects the fact that most entertaining scenes from this series (whether you love to hate the scenes or just love them) have revolved around Bear. Although I really like Ricky do I really believe he has done enough in there to win the whole show? Not really.

Bear is playing the game. He is trying to get a rise out of people - and frequently succeeding. And when he succeeds, he often gets the HMs to reveal a part of themselves which they would have preferred to keep hidden. That is his game. He is like a task.

If anyone close to me was stupid enough to want to go on this show, I would hope that they were fully aware of what they were letting themselves in for.

This is only real life for these people in that it is a job they have chosen to do - in most cases for a large amount of money. There's an awful lot that can be thrown at them in the BB house, and HMs they have a problem with is one of the most easily foreseeable obstacles. They should be well prepared for that.

Doesn't this make him a giant fake though?

I've heard a lot of his fans on here say the others are fake and that's why they don't like them. Isn't that a contradiction?

It's interesting that you didn't actually answer my question if whether you'd still think it was okay for him to behave like that on TV if a family member or friend of yours and he was goading away at them.

I would say yes that would be a contradiction, I'm not saying I love the bloke or anything I just find him entertaining (a guilty pleasure I guess is the phrase), completely understand the people who detest him though too.

I suspect Ex on the Beach is his ceiling. Expect in 6 months time people will have forgotten about him

Been watching some episodes of the one with Speidi in. They were pretty awful too. Thank god they never won.

Not so.

Different people experience things differently, on different levels.

Something minor to one person may be a big deal to others and vice versa.

If someone reacts intensely it obviously means something to them. To belittle that may not be a nice quality to display, of course, nothing personal.

(I have to talk in double speak now in case someone gets offended, ironic, on a board about Big Brother)
