Masterchef Australia Season 8 (UK Pace - Please No Spoilers)
Hey Bs and Gs,
We are back and Season 8 of MCA starts next Monday (29 August) on W at 19:30 with a 90 minute opener. Slightly annoyingly the show flits between 19:00 and 20:00 over the first week so not sure if that will stand up throughout or is just an opening week thing. This thread is for the UK pace on W TV channel and please no spoilers. Hope to see the regulars as well as any new fans of the show. Please join in with the conversation as we watch Gary, Matt and George (and no doubt one or two famous guest chefs) do their thing. |

Yaaaaaaaaaay! I haven't seen the last couple of series. Was it not on, or on a different channel or something?

It was on Watch as usual last year. though many people missed the semi and finale because they were on Saturday and Sunday just before Christmas, after being Monday to Friday till then. It's starting earlier this year so it shouldn't have that problem this time.

Couldn't be more excited about this! The trailer looks slick, but I could do with a little less MPW as I'm currently suffering the re-run of Aussie Professionals...

Finally showed up on the Virgin EPG for series linking, it's been having a meltdown this week.
There seems to be a lot of MPW's voice in the trailer - I hope he doesn't feature too heavily. A few days is funny - it tickles me the way he winds contestants up so he can comfort them with his meaningless 'philosophical' platitudes. More than a few days gets irritating. |

Must say I really enjoyed S7 and though the show was back to its early season pomp although we did have too much MPW and too little HB. If this years is as good as last years with any many genuinely likeable contestants I'll be happy. |

Oh no. Why couldn't it be on 8-9? That clashes with MKR
![]() I hope MPW isn't in it too much, he will remind me too much of his son on BB. Nightmare. |

I always record the repeat shown at 6 am the following morning. Works for me.

I also watched at aussie pace and it was a very good season. Even though yet again I ended up spoiling the winner for myself by googling as I thought I had missed episodes as last years was 60 episodes, this years is 63.

Thanks all - gives me confidence that we're in for another great season - and 63 episodes? Bliss!

Looks slick and so far encouraging - however...I forgot how much I detest the audition rounds

I don't like them either. I prefer just seeing the contestants in the proper kitchen.

Agreed both. I preferred it when the Top 50 had MCA tasks like in early seasons but already clearly some real talent out there.
Fantastic standard of cooking, although it'll be interesting to see how some of them cope with styles of cooking outside what they're used to. And my goodness, they've thrown a lot of money at the overseas trip this series, haven't they?! |

Pete Evans being a raging Paleo diet nutjob has kind of ruined the show for me

Found out that one of the guys on my floor of the office at work is the brother of Ben Macdonald from season 6! I'm very slightly starstruck

I knew who was going to get the final apron yesterday. The way they gave him so much air time and then he started with the in-vision interviews today. Did look like he was the best though in this task. Way way too early to have favourites for me, I seem to take about 5-10 episodes before I fully get their personalities and cooking styles to form strong opinions.

I'm sure it will pick up, but it's been a very slow start for me this season. I'm just not feeling it yet. The contestants seem competent but terribly bland, and then they went straight into a dessert, which I always find boring and uninspiring. Where was the balance in that fancy Snickers bar? It was just sweet on sweet on sickly sweet.

I don't know if these early audition rounds annoy me or give some insight as to what to expect... But they've started strongly with the deep personals...
The woman with the controlling big brother... Man. Imagine if they had been in MKR?! |
