Love how she just said that wouldn't work Con what are you going to do instead?!

This could go one of two ways, cue crumbling Con or rising like a Phoenix from the flames

I'm not ready to say goodbye to Con

Ok DS'ers, what cake would you do?

I'd go for my sticky toffee cake with butterscotch marscapone - hasn't killed anyone yet
i'm more an eater of cakes than a baker of them, but if you make two you can send me the other one

Ironically after I've been so disparaging mine would be one based on a Nigella recipe - flourless chocolate orange! But adapted to take account of my own and family dietary peculiarities.

Could this be the one where Matt not Goss crashes out unexpectedly?

I'd make a lemon drizzle cake with a ribbon of lemon curd running through the middle of it (mostly because I love lemons probably more than any of the judges)...I inject the lemon curd into the cake after it cools so that when you cut into it there is lemon curd in the middle.

I would make my chocolate brownies - it was originally a Nigel Slater recipe but I've adapted it over the years and even though I'm not a chocolate fan usually, it does taste pretty good. I always get good comments about it. I suppose I could jazz it up a bit with some sort of raspberry coulis and a creamy thing.

I am, as George would say, salivating. I love lemony things.

Any of our cakes would see us through to the next round I reckon!

Orange carrot jam makes more sense mimi, thank you!

I even have a gluten-free recipe for it - as at Christmas I have to make a cake or two for a coeliac in-law of my sister. Realised that occasionally you have to adapt things, and it seems to work quite well.

Actually the subtitles said orange first, then onion the second time. So it's anyone's guess!

Did I really just hear Charlie say "I want to put cream on the cake to cut through all the fat"? He does realise that double cream is fat, right?

I will type it up (it's handwritten in my personal recipe book) - it's one I adapted from another cake recipe...a lot of my recipes are like that so it's only tried and tested by me

Matt's cake is the one I want to taste.

Dammit, I haven't made my brownies in AAAAGES (my oven is borked) but now I'm thinking I really need to make some.

Oh yes, for sure, it just struck me as funny the subtitle software misheard too. I love subtitles - they get it so wrong sometimes it can be hysterical.

Is anyone else thinking that Nigella's week should have been right at the beginning when they were sorting the original wheat from chaff, rather than after MPW's week which was much more complicated and had harder challenges? Nigella's not got the same sort of kudos as a properly trained chef, she's a cook and her challenges could have just as easily been set by a member of the WI - who doesn't make a disproportionate Vicky sponge!
