Yes, it was often a bit of a joke before, especially when the guest chef got to choose what they were going to cook.
I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again, I love Shannon Bennett as mentor. Neither of the others would have actually shown a contestant how to de-vein a prawn quickly like that. They would have stood and asked if they thought they were doing it right. in the challenges where all are competing i think it might be favouritism if the judges showed a contestant how to do something rather than just dropped hints and let them work it out for themselves |

being devil's advocate shannon bennett is there specifically as a mentor for this round rather than a judge

Meh on the pretension of the guest chef dishes. I think that I'd choose Matt and Chloe's if only because they aren't all "glob of jelly over everything so you can't see it" and "three prawns..." sorry I came for FISH!

Phew, picture and sound back.
So what's that, four pins now already? They've gone a bit too far the other way, in favour of the contestants, in this series. |

Some really tight edits in the episode tonight. Guessing this was a longer episode down under or just a bad job of editing tonight?

Best winner they never had.

Matt's fantastic, think that he's either going to be disappointingly knocked out early, or he's going to get all the way through and be in the semis. |

got knocked out because she was unfamiliar with chinese cuisine despite being consistently very good with just about everything else |

Yeah we're getting a bit saturated with immunity pins, interesting to see how that plays out in the long game...wonder if we'll see some more superstar guest chefs in the immunity challenge to ensure that we don't end up with pretty much everyone getting one
![]() As mentioned, yeah, the editing was slightly weird there, they must have had to cut a lot to squeeze that into an hour and indeed my recording gave out literally ten seconds after they announced the winning scores! |

![]() ![]() I thought they were a bit harsh on the chef's main over the bitter melon. Although it is an acquired taste! I was the same at first but got used to it once you eat it a few more times.

I was wondering about that too...they can't give one out to everyone!

They really need to get the immunity pin balance right - series 5 was the worst, iirc they had them cooking against each other because they'd dropped the standard of contestant so drastically. It really ought to be a rarity for contestants to get one, not a regular occurrence. They're getting what amounts to one to one tuition anyway, which ought to be an advantage over the spectators in the gallery even without a pin.

Brett as team captain? I think that team might well be losing. Zoe is a strong lead and even though she is young that's not going to make a difference if she performs as well in this kitchen as she normally does in the MC one.
