Can't believe I missed the start of this. Do W do any weekend multi-episode catch-up type things?

George : I've got some really good news!
Me : Yay!!! George : MPW is with us all week! Me : Oh.... And speaking of one trick pony's Charlie (is that his name?) seems to only be able to cook desserts. I feel like there's one of those every season. |

Is he a thing in Australia? They seem to love him on Masterchef!
Because it's such a long-running series the producers probably like to have special weeks because it gives them something different to promote and they add some variety, and there aren't that many chefs with the standing, the celebrity status and personality to carry an entire week of episodes and who would be available. Marco knows his role and the show knows what it will get so it's safe for them to keep inviting him back. That's my theory anyway. |

I'm going to have to do a bit of ff-ing this week to escape the homespun 'wisdom' and 'when I was a young man...'. Whenever MPW slowly and deliberately takes off his specs, should do it. I hope Heston was free for a whole week later, I enjoy watching him, much more natural.
Nidhi reminds me of Jimmy in an earlier series who could mostly only cook curry too. That's fine when you're established, no one expects a chef to be able to cook every nationality in the world, but it doesn't fly for ever on MC. Nor does making desserts, Charlie. Having watched MC USA since the last series of MCA really brings home the second big difference, the first being the standard of cooking, of course. The second is the way the other contestants react when one of them has a success - lots of whooping, cheering and hugging in MCA, hostile glares and muttering that they're 'not that good and I'm better' in MC USA. I hope Matt's new wife is speaking to him when he gets home after hearing that their wedding day is no longer the best day of his life. Wish he'd lose the earrings. Piping a message on the plate in tomato sauce? Really? |

Cika, I agree, the message in tomato sauce, it's the sort of thing that someone who really isn't ready to be away from home does...I had high hopes for Cecilia and normally I would be rooting for the little guy, but every little "I miss my kids so much" action she does makes me realise that she's not where she wants/needs to be right now, so she should, perhaps, have waited to go on the show when the kids were older! I remember Jimmy, and then, of course, there's the lad last year or the year before (I think) who couldn't actually cook a main to save his life, and cooked desserts every single time. Oh, and was just trying to find out ^^^^ name and noticed that last year we had two weeks of MPW (weeks 3 and 11)... |

I text with a friend all the way through MCA (which is why it's so irritating when it clashes with MKR, but anyway...) and she pointed out that she believes Matt looks a bit like the Goss brothers from Bros. The minute she said it I saw it and now I can't unsee it, so I am sharing it with you.

I wonder if Cecilia is going to have a 'journey' and that's why we're seeing so much of her grizzling about her children on camera. If not, I think you're right, she's bitten off more than she can chew at the moment. Two weeks of MPW? Is he cheap to hire? Or can he just not resist the chance to listen to his own voice dripping pearls of pre-digested wisdom? Quote:
i agree but i think MCA just goes a bit too far with all the "whooping, cheering and hugging" as well

Well I certainly wouldn't touch what they're preparing tonight with a barge pole - olives! Main reason I don't like a nicoise! Oh well.
I find MPW a little bit up himself. Wonder how he and Jimmy would get on. |

Can't work out what's more annoying, MPW's cod-philosophy sub-Yoda garbage or him shouting "Yes Marco, yes Marco, yes Marco"

Yes Marco, Yes Marco, Yes Marco, Yes Marco, Yes Marco...
If he appears in a nightmare of mine saying those things in the next few days I'll be beside myself. I really don't like him in this role compared to the other awesome guest chefs they have on throughout the season(s). |

Hi, thought I'd join the masterchef party too. (MKR finishes fairly soon I think )Quote:

He seems to be afraid of mains too! Hope he can overcome this!Reynold cooked some amazing desserts last year but I think he wasn't too bad on mains - he did a good main dish for Heston if I remember rightly (he was one of my favourite contestants along with Jessie) Quote:

Did Zoe get the pin? sky decided to not record the whole programme and cut out just as Gary was given his score.

No, she lost by one point. But that veal carpaccio thing didn't look appetising on the plate, I have to say, and then they removed it for the big reveal of...some beans. Errr, what?
![]() Like the changes that they've made to the beat the chef immunity round, it was almost impossible for the contestants to win over the last couple of years Ooh, I remember something I meant to say from the elimination round - George, Matt and I think Gary up on the balcony! Have we ever seen that before? |

Zoe really blew that. She had a great chance with the guest chef getting a lowish score.

MPW Heston Blumenthal Maggie Beer Curtis Stone Peter Gilmore I could go on Adriano Zumbo hasn't featured for the past few series. Maybe he fell out with the judges because I used to like it when he set the pressure test |

Zumbo has a new show on another network (MKR's), called Zumbo's Just Desserts. It started after the Olympics and is running at 2 or 3 episodes a week. It's watchable, but not great, mainly because Zumbo isn't suited to a host/judge's role. Rachel Khoo is co-host/judge. She's better.
I spotted reruns of MCA series 1 on one of the very low profile (as far as I'm concerned) channels and dipped in over lunch yesterday. Matt Preston looked as if he'd been sleeping rough! Badly fitting crumpled clothes and hair hanging in greasy strands. I can't believe he was ever allowed on set looking like that! I do like this method of deciding the immunity pin, it's much more interesting than just throwing one of them to the wolves with no build up. And I'm delighted to see Shannon Bennett back, he's the best mentor they've ever had, imo, very encouraging and supportive and just helpful enough without making them feel as if they've made a terrible mistake doing what they're doing. Is that the lowest scoring immunity challenge they've ever had? |

Aw, no Zumbo this series?
I could have sworn he was in the last series, wasn't he? I like him - and not just because of his fiendish desserts.

Watched last night's quite late as it clashed with so many things! Zoe missed out by 1 point but neither course looked all that appetising. The veal looked incredibly red (probably due to the tomato oil) and for that reason was just too much, then there was the unset brulee. Found it quite funny that she was going with Italian ingredients and then went for a French dessert. There are so many things she could've made in the time she had, so many amazing Italian desserts she could've gone with, but she went with a fridge-set brulee (which didn't have anywhere near enough time to set)...
Was a rather low-scoring immunity round, but it's the first time, and the competition is less than 2 weeks old, I am sure that things will get better/improve and we will see much higher scoring rounds later on. |
