I think that they're looking to see what the contestants have learned in their time out of the MasterChef kitchen...and pretentious seems to be it.

Oh of course, Theresa wins, but Jimmy makes it all about how HE feels...urgh. Vacuum is about to leave the building.

They really need to stop using the same trick in the edit to throw us off the scent. It very rarely works more.

Oh and she has the power apron. Wonder what magic it'll work this time!

We are wise old owls to their tricks now! So Theresa's back. I'm underwhelmed

I like that she has confidence (ish) and I feel for Cecilia - not quite third time's the charm....

But yes of COURSE Jimmy it's all about you!

Are you kidding, I only saw TWO proper meals out of TWELVE.

And really, why wouldn't they? Learn to cook a parfait, and that's it. You can flavour it but you've learnt it. Learn to cook fish... oh no wait, I have to fillet it, portion it, cook it properly - plus know how to do this with every type of fish commonly cooked. Why bother when I can make a parfait sphere, a chocolate crumb/soil and a godforsaken curd.

Anastasia. Lol. Am I right in thinking her power had nothing to do with her own cooking, and then she had to give up the apron without having a chance at keeping it?

Hope Teresa/Theresa grasps the opportunity.

Exactly!! I was so cheesed off watching this episode, it was all desserts! I can remember when hardly any of the contestants could cook desserts and they would quake when they had to. The challenges need to change, it's getting very samey. So annoyed!

With so many dessert 'kings' and 'queens' this year it does look like a deliberate attempt to change the balance to mix things up so things don't get too samey. That was a terrible mistake the last time they tried it (series 5, 'let's stuff it full of people who wouldn't usually get past the audition, people will relate to them more, it'll be great!'). I know they've got to have some variety each year but they do also need to bear in mind that if it ain't broke ...

Thank God Charlie didn't win. "I'm really pushing myself" "This is uncharted territory for me" or whatever he said. If I had been watching live I would have posted on here to make sure everyone else was watching him put chocolate on a sphere, like he did every week.

ETA: I think they jumped the shark/nuked the fridge/smoked the goat last year when they had Reynold, wasn't he something of a ringer in the end?

But it did give us Kelty. Kelty week anyone?

That's so Kelty - a mystery box, with ingredients enjoyed by Kelty!
Kooking with Kelty - a masterclass from the man himself!
Keeping up with the Keltys - the contestants go to Kelty's house, where they must cook for the Kelty children, with the patented "Kelty crouch", where they tell the Keltys a story to go with their food!

Oh god alive...., I remember him. Wasn't that series officially named MasterKelty Australia?

Gosh Theresa is hard to watch she gives me such anxiety! She is always so stressed i cant see her coping with the pressure again. Lets hope she had learnt a few recipes instead of constantly blanking out

Hear hear! My heart sank a little when he ran back in full of confidence his chocolate coating was waaaay too thick.

I love Theresa's voice, it's so calming to listen to.
I'm glad she got back in instead of her brother.

Oh god, Theresa's back.

Sorry for the moan, but this is the worst ever series of MCA for me and I'm seriously considering throwing in the towel, at least until next time. Chloe and Mimi are the only two contestants that don't irritate the bejeezus out of me, and I struggle to tell them apart sometimes. The judges all seem to be phoning it in this season. And, most importantly, I am SO OVER the endless parade of ridiculous, style-over-substance desserts that nobody would actually want to pay for and eat. That burnt peach thing was a good example of a pretentious, sloppy mess on a plate. Where is all the variety there used to be?

I used to love MCA, but it's seriously in danger of disappearing up its own backside, much like our version did years ago.

gotta agree with you about the desserts , gimme a stodgy sponge pudding with custard over any of those any day

Aaah fond memories of The Keltymeister! He was a character.

Edit: that's the other thing about this season, all the contestants seem the same as well! There doesn't seem to be any person that stands out because they are kooky or funny or just plain weird!!

Agree with the slight annoyance at too many desserts. I think a 65/35 mix of savoury to dessert is fair enough as it gives a decent mix but it seems to be 65/35 the other way and that is too much.

Was sure Zoe would return so was watching feeling like I didn't really need to watch until they kept focusing on Theresa and my heart sunk. Poor Miles thinking he actually had a chance. Tee hee...

when miles parfait didn't set he should have just dropped it onto the plate in a big splat and claimed he was being artistic like cecilia

Aaaarrrrgggghhhh no no no no no!

Just caught up with last nights and absolutely gutted that Teresa is back, it's Po all over again.

Disliked Teresa (and Jimmy) from day one, was delighted when we finally saw the back of them....or so I thought, only for them to inflict her on us again.

If they have to have a comeback, it should also be over a week or at least with three different challenges forcing them to cook both savoury and sweet to give a chance of a worthy contestant coming back.

And just to jump rant a wee bit, so far this series the power apron has been just wearing a different apron to everyone else to cook. Don't think there has been any power involved in it this year at all

Oh and Matt to win for me

This series in a nutshell: in order to get back into the competition, Theresa memorised one of Reynold's desserts, featuring a crumbed sphere, chocolate ball with a 'surprise' inside, and of course some meringue.
