I did laugh last night when I was watching Masterchef and saw Elise making a **GASP** parfait.

I couldn't help but think about the comments I've read in this thread.

Just watched last nights episode. When did the basil ice cream miraculously appear on the plate ? I was waiting and waiting on the judges commenting , then I realised somehow the green puddle on the plate was the miraculous appearance. :confused

Surely the judges have to say something to the contestants who constantly make desserts? I thought the point of trying to win is to show some versatility to try and achieve that?

I'm in two minds about the whole dessert thing, really - for most people the dessert is an important part of a meal and they have tended to be a bit neglected previously. And in the 'outside world' being a dessert chef these days carries a lot more prestige than it did even five years ago.

I think my main bugbear this year isn't the number of people who prefer to make desserts, it's that the desserts they're making are pretty much all parfaits or ice creams, with crumbs, soils and shards thrown in for good - or bad - measure.and that many of them will squeeze a dessert out of practically any challenge.

They don't get away with making such a limited range of mains or starters without comment, so to that extent I agree, the judges should be pulling them up on it by now.

perfectly put

the problem isn't the amount of desserts its that they are all basically making the same one

Yay, I always like Heston week!

I think there's only one person left in who annoys me now, that's Brett. I'm not sure exactly why, but I find him irritating. Everyone else I either feel positive towards (especially Matt) or ambivalent about.

So we've reached Heston week (feels later this year)...and the first challenge looks like a doozy, one that depends greatly upon time management. Theresa if you screw this up for Matt I might be very very cross with you and your irritating Canadian accent. I like the way that they are doing elimination this week, making it much more of a punishment.

Oh great:

Dessert from Harry and Chloe.

They're all doing a main and a dessert, aren't they? I wasn't paying attention, got a nagging cat in my ear.

Yes, it seems so - and of course Theresa is doing her 'orbs' that burst and domes are being done by a couple, copycatting a dessert from a previous challenge. I think I must have missed what desserts have a parfait in them.

Also Gary doesn't understand Brett's meal idea (just wish he'd been paired with Chloe or Elise).

The good news is they can't have time to make a parfait - I haven't heard one mentioned!

Oh...Elise is with Brett - so they can go into elimination and miss the whole Heston week and I will be quite happy. And you're so right, there isn't time for the parfait, or ice cream.

Evening all

Any reason why Elise dumped all her chocolate into her mounds instead of just painting it in them?

She might be screwing it up for Brett, but I won't be upset if they're sidelined for the rest of the week

The fact that Chloe just said that she thought they were going really well makes me think they are in trouble !

I suspect we're being led up the garden path with that. I'm more concerned about Harry and, I presume Chloe, since you say that's Elise with Brett.

Brett might also be screwing it up for Brett given the fact that the concept he presented wasn't understood and he also doesn't really 'get' Heston's style of cooking.

Not sure why Elise didn't paint it on, especially as she could probably tell that the chocolate was quite thick before she started dropping it into the dome moulds...

Brett seems to think it's all about Brett, and the girl is just there to help him.

But we need to know that it's tempered chocolate...because then we know that she knows how to look after chocolate properly (which she clearly doesn't purely because it's not working as it should).

I thought this was a bit too gimmicky when they described it but it's making me really tense, despite Gary's overacting!

I have to say that I like the fact that the time management is really pushing them to the limits. It's clear that they are all having to work that much harder, and have been freaked out by the fact that if they don't move they are missing their opportunity to have their food tested and will definitely go into the elimination.

If you could get me into one of those pods, I'd never be able to eat anything. I feel queasy thinking about it.

I don't understand how the sea dish fits into the theme! I see that it's beautiful and that it was delicious, but how does under the sea fit a space theme?

It's really adding to the challenge there being an actual tangible reason for sticking to the timings, rather than there just being a stock shot of a diner looking at their watch

Some of them have really been winging it with the concept haven't they?!

I'm really enjoying this challenge! Loving the theme. Thinking Trent and Heather won't be cooking for the rest of the week.

Finally feels like I'm watching Masterchef Oz instead of Parfait Central.
