I'm really enjoying this challenge! Loving the theme. Thinking Trent and Heather won't be cooking for the rest of the week.

Finally feels like I'm watching Masterchef Oz instead of Parfait Central.
Not looking good for them, is it? This is definitely the best one for a long time - thank goodness for Heston!

Some of them have really been winging it with the concept haven't they?!
I think that some of them are having an issue with the concept in that they didn't understand it to begin with.

I know, the time limit ensured that they couldn't make parfait (perhaps they should do this for the rest of the competition). Think that you're right with regard Trent and Heather, especially after the feedback that they got.

As challenges go, it was a pretty decent one. Time management was key as much as the attention to the brief. Surprised not to see some squid ink!!

Interesting challenge with the theme (interpreted quite liberally by some, I agree - who hears "space theme" and thinks "mmm, underwater" - and how did that "connect with the brief"?) and the timing (I had to laugh at the "drama" of the yellow team's main as the pod inched its way past...it wasn't exactly last second, was it?). But I agree, having a definite time slot to have to hit is a very nice idea.

Ripping off the Anna's Mess dish of just a few episodes ago...bit weak. But no parfaits! Whoo!

How long were Heston, George and Matt on that wheel for? They must have went round quite a few times!

On the desserts in general, yes, I agree, it's not that they're all making dessert, it's that they all look alike - parfait/dome/soil/curd. Having said that, I stick by my assertion that too many of them are intentionally ducking opportunities to do savoury and finding a way to twist it to dessert. And thought that's mainly the case in the women, yes there are some guys the other way and only doing savoury. Even tonight, most teams the guy did the main and the girl the dessert. Indeed I think the only time that wasn't the case was in the all-girl team! I think we'd learn a lot more about them if that was reversed.

just caught up with last night, a few observations

great seeing heston and particularly the reaction to him

like the concept of the pop-up restuarants but feel its wasted on "heston week", i would like to see him more involved in the daily challenges rather than just being a judge

when theresa came back we discussed the issue of her recreating a dish reynold had showed her to get her back into the competition, and last night again brought up that fine line between the contestants learning from the chefs that guest on the show and flat out copying their ideas. harry last night crossed that line imo, and elise wasn't far behind.

I agree, it was well beyond being inspired by and well into flat out copying. That does seem to me to be another issue with the tsunami of desserts this year. It seems as if there's much less innovation and much more copying of ideas than we usually see in mostly savoury years - I can't think of anything we've seen in the last few weeks from the dessert mafia that's been innovative, other than trying to make parfaits from things you can't actually make parfaits from, which I wouldn't call innovative, more desperate.

Heather had a lot of help with her dessert - how on earth did she not know the batter was wrong for a cake that she knows, and then make the same mistake again? And then have to be told the cream thing was split. I love how in the 20/20 hindsight VT she's like 'and it's split', as if she didn't have to have this told to her by Gary. How many chances does she need?

Felt sorry for Trent. Chloe was helped by Gary to avoid overcooking her meat, he didn't get that assistance. How far in advance was she even cooking it??? Makes you wonder what is and isn't shown in terms of help. Plus the theme was crap - it didn't look like 'space junk' Matt, it looked like a piece of steak. Clear favouritism of a contestant who isn't even good.

WTH is 'space junk' anyway, is it a famous phrase? They all kept going on about it. According to matt, the steak looked like 'those pictures of space junk we see'. Do we? What are these famous pictures? Are they talking about asteroid belts?

The sea food thing was ridiculous. When they were telling Gary they looked a bit embarrassed and probably couldn't believe their luck that he liked it.

Harry's copied dessert - I wonder if Heston even knew they had copied it?

I thought the most interesting dish was Theresa's.

I read that and thought "that sounds quite tasty" and I have to admit that I really like coconut rice, the right combination of sweet and savoury, not too cloying.

They mean all the crap in low Earth orbit - dead satellites, satellites that have hit other satellites and smashed up, spent rocket stages etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_debris

It's not a particularly obvious inspiration for a meal, though - having said that most of them came up with a dish and then went "how can we present it and bullshit a story to sound like the brief". Although Theresa's a bit over-earnest for my liking, she was about the only one who really got the concept well.

I am really looking forward to finding out what tonight's challenge is going to be...and how long Brett lasts before the judges realise that he's out of his depth during Heston week, as he's already admitted he doesn't understand the chef's food style.

I really need someone rubbish to get put into the elimination round tonight having had the day from unemployment hell.

Since they are at the beach they can literally jump the shark while they make their savoury ice creams.

Pity we're not getting to see much - any? - Heston cooking, it looks as if it's all pop ups. I know he'll do a masterclass but I find those dull. It's more fun to see him cooking in front of them and them trying to keep up, that sorts the sheep from the goats. It seems an odd choice of how to use his time, I don't suppose he comes cheap.

Brett for the chop!!!!

I would be very happy with either of those pairings.

It does sound appealing. All of theirs do, tbh.

Their ideas were met with wild enthusiasm from Heston and George. Not.

I agree, I think that they have come up with some good ideas, it's just a case of whether they are any good.

Not sure about that.

Does anyone else think that they should've stayed in the same teams they were in yesterday, if only because it makes it fair.
