Not long to wait! Starts at 7pm tonight (assume there's a masterclass then...)

The Pirate thinking outside the box again. Not. That's a good sign.

Would have been so nice to see another episode without sweets/desserts but that's too much to expect, they did one this week.

I just have an issue with this challenge, the judging criteria - it was specific that this is about a dish that shows their food dream, so how can they rank them based on that?

Wasn't there one a few seasons back who wanted to make cupcakes (was it the annoying model girl?) and how can you judge cupcakes against a lobster dish? Doesn't make the cupcakes any less worthy!

True. This one doesn't have that problem though, to my mind. The dishes can be judged on technical ability, execution and taste just as if they were an invention test.

I think you're right about that. There is a level of technical ability associated with each of these dishes, though Harry is concerned about his dish being far too simple. That said, Pirate is doing meat and three veg, and pickled anything with the rest of his dish just sounds odd.

I'm watching on delay - I'm about 15 mins behind at the moment cika, but yeah, there doesn't seem to be too much of an issue this year. But it does grate on me every year!

I do agree in principle, though - if someone who wanted to open a cake shop was up against someone who wanted 3 Michelin stars it's hard to see how they'd judge what they put up fairly. But I suppose with the three or four judges they almost always have they've got a good cross section of experience. Some kind of explanation of how they do it and what they look for when it happens would be interesting. Although W would probably edit it out.

Not as much as the Pirate, I reckon. Getting the sauce wrong is the second worst thing you can do, after undercooking chicken!

Harry is adorable. If they send him home now I'll be cross.

Not long to go until we find out!

Oh and just looked forward on the EPG and discovered that next Friday is actually a Masterclass where the judges face their own mystery boxes, and there are still 3 episodes to go after that.

Having been away this week, I have just binge watched the full 5 episodes.

Right result in the end but it took so long to get there!

Winning an earlier challenge meant you lost out on the opportunity to cook - which is a double-edged sword. Yes you are safe but you miss out on learning opportunities.

It felt like they could have got through the elimination so much more effectively - but, of course, it wouldn't have provided a full week of shows. It all felt too much of the same for me.

Hey ho - on to my first finals week... not sure what to expect. But I know who I want to win, who I wouldn't mind winning and who really doesn't deserve it.

Has anyone done a proper analysis to find out what percentage of 'cooks' ended up being dessert/parfait with Little Miss Annoying?

I can't believe she has made it to finals week with such a limited repertoire.

My personal favourites are Elena and Matt - I think they are both incredibly talented and seem to have a natural ability to work with flavours in an innovative way which results in delicious and attractive dishes.

Not particularly happy with the result, they wanted Brett out.

For the street food, I thought the crab dish looked amazing and they used the missing taco to devalue it, when the dish didn't need it anyway. I thought both dishes from the blue team were basic, in particular the chicken looked so dry. A huge piece of meat and no sauce.

Fair enough if they felt the prawns lost it for the reds - though I'm sure people have left poop in before and not been in elimination for it. I felt reds had both the best dishes, which is probably why they were OTT in praise of the chicken to seem like it was a fairer result.

Have I missed something, has Mimi always had this love of desserts? Or is it just because the judges are so impressed by generic desserts, the cooks now feel safer doing a dessert and suddenly that's their food dream?

Well she was right - ice cream, check, jelly, check, lemon curd, check, chocolate mousse, check. George whispering 'wow' as if we haven't seen this a million times already. Bored. Guess what? Dish of the day! Of course! Totally amazing!

No one ever bother to learn how to cook meat or make sauces again. It's not worth your time and effort. Unless it's a caramel sauce, naturally.

Does anyone else find Mimi's voice hard going? It's whiny and she does this same inflection thing on every sentence, I find it draining to listen to

I think we all wanted Brett out and he knew he was out as soon as he couldn't get that sauce right. All the judges always emphasise that the sauce needs to be right to pull the whole dish together. As soon as he couldn't see any bones in the fridge I thought game over straight away. I didnt think about pork belly so you learn something everyday.

The fact is at this stage the judges want perfection or as close to perfection as possible. I think leaving the poop in prawns is awful and serving it to the masses wasn't something they could easily forgive.

Yes another dessert but I really liked this concept that Mimi put together the whiskey/honey combo took it to a new level and I was just relived it wasn't a goat cheese/beetroot type of dessert again. I am not a huge fan of savoury going sweet and I didn't want to see another sphere so good on Mimi for doing something which maybe isn't original but looked like a classic dish. At this stage she could have gone completely OTT but when she opened that drawer my heart stopped. For some reason I just knew it wasn't a freezer or it wasn't on! I personally prefer Eleana to Mimi but I do like them both. Mimi has grown on me and I don't mind who wins overall as long as its not Elise or Trent. I dont think that Elise or Trent have as much depth to their cooking as the other contestants.
