Fair enough if they felt the prawns lost it for the reds - though I'm sure people have left poop in before and not been in elimination for it. I felt reds had both the best dishes, which is probably why they were OTT in praise of the chicken to seem like it was a fairer result.

Have I missed something, has Mimi always had this love of desserts? Or is it just because the judges are so impressed by generic desserts, the cooks now feel safer doing a dessert and suddenly that's their food dream?

Well she was right - ice cream, check, jelly, check, lemon curd, check, chocolate mousse, check. George whispering 'wow' as if we haven't seen this a million times already. Bored. Guess what? Dish of the day! Of course! Totally amazing!

No one ever bother to learn how to cook meat or make sauces again. It's not worth your time and effort. Unless it's a caramel sauce, naturally.

Does anyone else find Mimi's voice hard going? It's whiny and she does this same inflection thing on every sentence, I find it draining to listen to ”

Someone correct me if I'm misremembering (as if I need to ask! ) but I think Mimi started out as one of the dessert mafia, and I think Harry leant more towards desserts at the beginning too. But unlike Elise, and Chloe, too, who has cooked a couple of savouries and cooked them well but usually tries to torture any set of ingredients into a dessert, they've become more versatile and adapted to what's needed as they've progressed. I don't blame her for cooking what she's best at and what she loves in an elimination!

Except at the lowest level no one expects chef in a commercial kitchen to be able to cook anything at a moment's notice. Even a commis is assigned to a station. But any contestant on MCA must know by now that they're going to have to be flexible and anyone who goes out of their way to avoid cooking one thing or another doesn't stand much chance, imo. Actually I'm surprised that Elise has lasted this long, however good her desserts are.

I hadn't noticed Mimi's voice. I probably will now!

There's no doubt he didn't get the sauce right but in pure taste of the dish terms, the judges comments definitely seemed harsher about Harry's burnt lemon and so I was surprised that it was Brett who went.

I'm not too irate about Mimi doing a dessert because I agree with cika, even if she was one of the original dessert mafia she has branched out well. I doubt she's got what it takes to win (famous last words...) but I don't put her remotely in the same category as Chloe and Elise.

I'm not surprised it was Brett. It's hard for us to judge as we can't taste the food, we get highly edited versions of the judges comments when they taste the food and we get even more edited versions of their judgely discussions. But I have a strong suspicion that, especially at this late stage, if it's a close decision, it's not just about the dish. In this case, Brett thought his dish was perfect while Harry was upset and annoyed with himself that he'd forgotten to taste his at the end and knew that was potentially a problem.

We often see them questioning the contestants in an ordinary elimination about their dish and their 'food dream' (hate that phrase!) and I suspect that in a close thing they favour the contestant who's realistic over the one who's uncritical about something the judges think has a problem. Especially when the contestant identifies the problem to camera then tries to blag it to the judges - not that Brett did that this time, but he thought his dish was fantastic and as far as we can tell had no criticism of it, unlike Harry.

Then there's development. Brett had been making pretty much the same dish for quite a few of the recent challenges, meat and three veg, plus something smoked and something pickled. Harry has been experimenting and refining in most challenges.

Put that all together and it had to be Brett who went. He was marking time and had got everything he was going to get out of the process .

Except the money...

Same in the GBM - if someone thinks a dish is perfect, and can't see where it can be improved, it sets off warning sirens.

Yes, true. And on our MasterChef John and Gregg make it clear when they're pretending they don't know which of two to put through to the next round that it'll be the one they think can benefit from going on and cope with the pressure. So it's never just about what's on the plate in front of them.

Well those ingredients are definitely different. Matcha is something I would love to experiment with myself, unfortunately, it's blinking expensive.

Wonder what Elise will end up cooking as she looked incredibly dismayed by what was put before her.

So, someone will go tonight too (or did I mishear that, highly possible as I was catching up on the thread and watching my cat play with new toys).

ETA: Oh look, Elise is doing a dessert, AGAIN! And a parfait sphere no less. Anyone betting on that should a) go and collect their winnings and b) take a couple of drinks in the drinking game.

It's an unlikely box but surely they should make them use more than one ingredient. Elise could just use the milk for a parfait...

I don't think anyone goes home tonight, I think some go to elimination. Not absolutely sure though.

OK, hand on heart, I'm five-ish minutes behind - I hadn't seen her say she was making a parfait!

You had to say it! Matcha parfait spheres. Why am I not surprised. Okay, so she's playing to her strengths but she's hardly showing any additional skill, or that she's learned anything if that's all she's been making since the word go.

I'm just glad I'd swallowed my mouthful of wine - it would have been very messy otherwise.

Red or white?

I am so disappointed that they haven't announced "opposite day," or something like it - because there are people that favour sweet over savoury and vice versa, though the ones who favour savoury tend to be a little bit more versatile, something Elise definitely isn't. I just wish she'd try and prove me wrong.

Sounds like Matt may have missed a trick by not curing with the alcohol as Elena has.

Or not.

Elise is so predictable, looking at everyone else they are really pushing themselves to do something creative and different, she is sticking to the same old. She needs to go, she hasn't developed at all, she immediately goes to her comfort zone of parfaits.

Red. Lowers blood glucose and cholesterol so it's medicinal.

I think Elise is going to fall foul of the same thing that sent Brett home. At some stage this week she'll be in the bottom two and if it's not some huge mistake that sends her home, it'll be her complacency and lack of development. Not that they'll say it's that, of course but they're not daft. If we can see if so can they.

I'm about 20 mins behind at the moment *shakes fist at ironing* but I had to come in to say

A chuffing parfait, are you kidding me?!

Love how she felt compelled to say "you need to learn to adapt with ingredients you're not familiar with" - no worries Elise, you can make a parfait seemingly out of anything

Jellified fat.

Doesn't sound like a recommendation to me.

Harry, please don't pick the nitrogen...will just encourage smug to make another bloody dessert!

Is it going to be a double parfait night?

Mousse for Matt ...

Dacquoise for Harry, with sorbet and granita.

Go Elena - savoury!!!!

No parfait for Mimi. Uh oh, a dome, though.

Cake and ice cream from Trent. Bit too simple, perhaps

And another dome and ice cream from Elise, even she couldn't bring herself to do a parfait. But let's not take any advice from the judges.

Ouch. That was rather harsh from Gary about Trent's dish..."pressure into the bottom three, I'm applying it..."

I feel as if Trent's reached his limit - he probably needs to get out there in the real world now. Can't see him as the winner.

Matt looks to be in trouble too.

I feel as though he'd already conceded defeat the moment he discovered it was the liquid nitrogen, as though he knew he needed to do a dessert. He'd have been better off going along the same path as Elena.

That was difficult to watch, I think this is going to be a tough week for us viewers

To return to the very beginning of the show, narrator man said that it was a sad ending to the week in California when Brett said goodbye - clearly not part of this forum then

I had to stop watching for a bit , now up to the tasting of the dishes for the mystery box, waiting for Elise's feedback.
