Agree on both comments about Con, he looks like he is about to sob like a baby- however has 'dark horse' written all over him
Charlie's a bit weird, cried buckets the first week but radiates steely determination now Matt who isn't Matt Goss is the front runner at the moment without question. The way that the editing has been going, he could easily be the Marion of the year The standard is fantastic, best yet at this stage |

Does no one else think that Matt looks like a young Judge Rinder?
I still like him though! |

![]() As soon as he rocked up at her bench in the first round of the elimination he just seemed really dismissive of her efforts and the writing was pretty clearly on the wall. Then poking her bhajis and saying it's crispy...kind of...and then the slightly snide comment near the end about her not wanting to cook food like that (or something). Just seemed like he'd already decided whom he wanted to go. |

Wish the judges would just STFU sometimes. So Nidhi bit the dust and Theresa manages to scrape through by the skin of her teeth...................again. |

![]() ![]() She's cooked a couple of great dishes early on and there are still several people in the lineup who we barely know about! |

I'm shocked Nidhi went so early too. I was so hoping Theresa was going to go.

Nidhi was very good, but, unfortunately, she was limited to one style of cooking and though normally someone with those limitations does tend to normally get further I think that the cauliflower was her downfall. I know that people tend to make so much with it these days, it soaks up oil as nicely as an aubergine and can make something nice and crisp a little bit rubbery.
As much as I find Theresa annoying she did make a good biscuit and a parfait (and the meal would have been complete with the sauce), and showed skill outside of her comfort zone. They were both (Nidhi and Theresa) stuck when it came to ideas for what to make, but Nidhi's core ingredient made it more difficult for her to do anything but what she did! Ultimately I think the right person went home yesterday

Or, to put it another way - how would Theresa have fared had they made similar comments to her during that pressure test? It might not be the intention and it could be the fault of the editing but sometimes, it looks a bit personal and detrimental. |

The bit where she said she wanted to do a modern twist and Matt said that was exciting and Gary apparently read her mind and said she didn't really want to do that. Give how much they baby pretty much everyone else, it was rude. You might not believe me, but when I was watching the early episodes with Nidhi doing well, I got the impression the judges weren't convinced and the edit seemed like she would get eliminated early. They didn't present her as being good, despite doing well. It's a shame because she was clearly a sweet person. |

A quick rant about dessert. I generally am annoyed by 'dessert queens' on MC. Perhaps it's because I happen to not like those contestants anyway, but mostly because MC isn't a pastry programme and I get annoyed by them saying they just want to bake (don't go on a cooking programme then).
Does anyone remember back in the first mystery box challenge, and Matt said to young golf person/poached pear man that he was already elevating himself by doing dessert as only three people were doing it, and how clever it was? How annoying. What if everyone did that? Just ignored all the ingredients and used the one piece of fruit and the pantry ingredients, somehow elevating themselves with their repetitive combinations? And it's always the same stuff. A crumb. A gel. A semifreddo. This years new one - nougat. Replaces the meringue shard, maybe? I might memorise the recipe for dessert bingo, move to Australia, and win next years show. |

I've been watching reruns of season 1 on one of the cable channels this week. Wow, I'd forgotten quite how tearfully irritating Julie was! I'm loving Sam, Chris and Poh again though. And the judges look so different!

I nearly agree! I felt right from day one the judges wanted Po to win and always felt the comeback round was only done to get her back after they had to send her home. Julie was annoying and both for me were a wee bit one trick ponies in the way they stuck more or less to their one area as much as possible.
Always felt Chris was the best and was glad to hear he'd gone on to be so successful. Sam was always likeable and fair |

In that instance, I agree - Theresa definitely put up the best dish and stayed because of that.

I think to be good in MCA you need to be able to listen to certainly the two chefs Gary and George as they go around because they do seem to give people a steer as to whether they are on the right track or not. Also you need to have two plans so if your first idea is failing have another plan formulating in the back of your head. If they come around, taste and try to steer you away then know what you are going to do instead of getting the deer in the headlights look. |

A couple of thoughts about Nidhi-gate - we never really know how much or little any of the judges say to other contestants in those circumstances because we only see what made the edit. It could be that we were just shown a lot more of their criticisms of her than the others just because she was going home.
Even if that wasn't the case, I agree that although she was good she was showing signs of being limited in what she cooked. That's not necessarily a bad thing - look at how much they loved Samira, who managed to cook Middle Eastern almost whatever the challenge was - didn't she even stick coriander into what should have been a French dish once?! I think it's not listening to advice that seals their fate and if they do it repeatedly I can understand any of the judges getting impatient. The contestants might be very good, they might even be better than very good, but they're still amateurs and all the judges have been in the industry for years. Their advice isn't always be right but if all three of them tell you the same and you still ignore it, it looks as if you're not prepared to learn and think you already know better than them. In a tight elimination, if you're up against someone who has listened and taken advice and so seems more willing to learn, you're going home. It's not always - I'm tempted to say never - the best cook who wins MCA. You also have to be able to adapt, take advice, think fast and hold your nerve whatever is thrown at you. I think Nidhi probably missed out on several of those while Theresa had shown she could do all of them, at least for now. |

The 'steering' could be perceived as cheating - what if you're someone in there who doesn't need it? I find it irritating to watch so one can only imagine how frustrating it must be if you're actually in that kitchen competing - same goes for all that hollering and 'steering' from the gallery, which I also wish would be stopped. And in terms of learning, the MC Aus contestants all benefit from receiving at least one session per week of Masterclass, all week mentoring from guest chefs like MPW and Heston as well as being able to watch and ask questions of the chef doing the Immunity Pin Challenge. |

I'll defend the judges a bit here as they have already done that to Theresa and to others and always have done. Remember the judges taste as they go around and if something isn't good enough they'll try and nudge a contestant into either fixing it or changing their idea.
The shouting from the other contestants would be incredibly distracting for anyone, but anyone who's watched previous series would know that this is the way it's always been, they consider it to be supportive, even if it's more annoying at times (especially when you're trying to concentrate). I know that people say that Nidhi was unfairly treated in this case, but I think that the lesson is (and has to be) that this is a competition, she was offered advice/guidance and ignored it, they are there as judges, there are mentors throughout the competition and the judges aren't them - everyone has their favourites (though I am yet to pick mine) and however great she is at her style of cooking, this time, it's clearly not what Matt, George and Gary are looking for. I came across the first season a while back and couldn't believe how much hair Gary had and that Matt the Cravat was slimmer! ![]() But I agree with you Julie was thoroughly irritating and I still don't know how she won! I tried to watch the all stars version too and when I discovered she was on it I gave up. ![]() Edit: loved Sam and Chris tho. |

I just wish they'd keep their advice to themselves whilst the contestants are doing a cook-off. It is a competition after all and they can always give their feedback after the fact.

They're only ever going to tweak it a little round the edges all the time it's working for them. |
