Go Elena!
Matt is clearly a very good cook & seems a nice bloke, but his "I couldn't ask for a better sauce", "I've knocked it out the park" comments are starting to grate somewhat. Yes, we know you are good - you don't have to remind us!
Elena just seems a little more humble in terms of her ability...

Pretty sure we are on course for our highest ever scoring final. The loser might well score higher than every other years winner!

Whoever comes second might not get all the dish but surely they'll get some sort of sponsorship - as someone said yesterday, they're both already better than some of the UK MasterChef Professionals contestants.

Yep looked like it, their entrance must've been edited out of our version.

There is one young blonde girl who was a contestant who I just don't know at all...

About mid-way there was a teary scene with friends and family on the floor in the original.

Yup, we definitely didn't get that! They were just teleported in without as much as a mention

I suppose if we've got to lose anything, and we always do, apparently, I'd rather lose teary reunions than the cooking.

I haven't always liked this series but this has to be the best final with the two most deserving finalists. I wish it could be a tie.

I would love a tie, I know the runner up gets some money and kudos, but they are so evenly matched

That cracked egg probably cost him one point from all the judges and the title. So close yet so far...

They really hit about this time of night don't they?

Can't help thinking that if it were only Gary, Matt and George scoring that last round it would've been a tie!

But a fantastic end to a fantastic series, MCA back to its best

Thanks to all on here for enhancing the watching experience for yet another year

Kind of torn. On one hand I think Matt deserved to win.

On the other hand, in terms of cooking time, 60 minutes for an entree and 75 minutes for a main each get 30 points and 330 minutes (5.5 hours) gets only 40 points? So in that sense Elena probably deserves to win for doing better in the cook that dominated the final, essentially. Also, a bonus point for helping him at the end seems fair

The challenges are a bit skewed in that sense. Not saying that they should basically give all the points for dessert but if you're going to have ludicrous challenges in the final they may as well ALL be ludicrous...

On a 5.5 hour challenge do they go for toilet breaks? Do the gallery get bored standing and go off for a tea break?

Matt's expression at the vacuum machine was awesome! Strange editing with his pannacotta though?

Indeed, quite a lot of strange editing near the end. How long was that episode on for in Oz?

Look forward to seeing you all next autumn as no doubt triton told us earlier - the ratings were great and it has been renewed for another season.

Amazing how it showed production decisions can change a show as after S5 it was in real trouble and now after S8 it is right back at (or near the top) of the Aussie TV ratings charts.

The network's online player says 114 minutes, not counting breaks.

I was very happy for Elena and quite surprised she won. Since season 4 and Andy I've been a little suspicious that, depending on who's left, the judges can have a preferred winner in the last couple of weeks whom they favour, and this time I thought it was Matt. He's an excellent cook and with his outgoing personality he would have been their ideal representative as the winner, whereas Elena is a quiet type who doesn't seek attention. That she won has restored my trust in the process.

The girl, boy, girl, boy pattern of winners is finally broken.
