the only ones that actually scare me are the ones that could actually exist in real life, like buffalo bill and billy from black christmas. if they have a creepy voice that really tops it off for me. the phantom of the opera also terrifies me.

James Cagney in White Heat - "Top of the World Ma!"
Oh, and he never actually says that...its a common misquote...it's actually - 'Made it Ma...top of the world!' |

Werner Herzog as 'The Zec' in 'Jack Reacher’.
There is something very sinister about Werner Herzog and he'd probably take that as a compliment. |

I disagree. The scariest thing about that pile of cack was the midget lead actor playing the six feet seven hero! |

The Wicked Witch of the West - frightened the hell out of me as a kid!
Freddie Kruger - watching it when it was newly released it was truly scary, we hadn't had anything quite like him before. Norman Bates Mrs Danvers in Rebecca - I found her quite sinister ETA: Kathleen Byron as Sister Ruth in Black Narcissus used to give me the willies

I'm on board with loads of previous mentions - Heath Ledger's Joker, Tommy De Vito, Anne Wilkes, Begbie and the fantastically re-imagined Shere Khan, but the villians I really wouldn't want on my case are the original Terminator and his T-1000 friend. If I had a private army, I could stop all the other villians... but not those guys.....

Attenborough made for a fine villain himself. A memorable turn in Brighton Rock as callous punk Pinkie Brown - basically a flick-knife in human form. And fabulously sinister as the infamous killer Christie in 10 Rillington Place, a film (great btw) so seedy in tone it makes you want to have a bath afterwards. |
