Pinhead from Hellraiser was scary. In fact the Cenobites were all of the type I wouldn't like to meet.

Henry Hill said a few times that Tommy "Two Guns" DeSimone on who Joe Pesci's character in Goodfellas was based, was far, far worse in real life than his screen portrayal.
What a terrifying thought. It bugged me that Jimmy and Henry were so upset he got whacked when he so richly deserved it, not to mention I always felt that Tommy could easily turn on them too. |

Most of mine have already been mentioned but I can't multi quote on this phone so I'm agreeing with y'all, not ignoring you.
Yep, Reverend Henry Kane from Poltergeist. Far and away the most terrifying character ever. Wicked Witch of the West made me cry. Jaws and Keys and the US government dudes after ET also set my heart racing. Even now. Pennywise the clown from It. Jigsaw from Saw was fantastically creepy when first saw it but seems a bit sh*tty now. Nurse Rached (One Flew Over...) The power she had terrified and frustrated me. Jason That girl with the hair in the Ring. My daughter unwittingly does a great impression of her on the landing in the middle of the night and scares the bejaysus out of me. Perhaps not strictly a villain but that old lady/girl hybrid in Don't Look Now. Damien. Chucky. In fact, all children and all dolls. |

Cruella Devilly from 101 Dalmatians and the witch from Snow White. The latter in that scene where she turns up at the Dwarf's house and peers through the window.

Kuchisake-Onna.
Michael Myers (Halloween 1 version). Pennywise. Terminator but only in the first one where he is searching the car park. He looks really creepy! Sadako (The Ring). |

That truck in Duel.
Is there a driver? Is it the devil or is just some random nut job that any one of us could meet on the road.......maybe on your next trip out. |

I don't know his name but the guy with the truly dreadful 'cockney' accent from Pinocchio who takes the boys to Treasure Island is fairly terrifying. That is not a film fit for children.
Also Nicky from Casino. Arguably even nastier than Tommy from Goodfellas, a man with no morals, conscience or ethics. Plotting to kill his best friend while shagging his wife leaves a really nasty taste. In a similar vein Li'l Dice from City Of God is really sinister. There's something about creepy kids. So from there Isaac from Children of The Corn. Not a great film really but John Franklyn as Isaac has a voice that gives me chills. |

The might-be/possible villains in Race With The Devil are so frightening, because of the uncertainty stemming from the fact it's only revealed at the very end who the real villains actually are.
