Then why do you keep mocking the age of the panel?

I'd disagree

I haven't watched properly since Olly and Danyl's era, (blimey was it 10 years ago?) but now we're back to the almost original panel, am curious enough to give it a go again. If others are drawn back for similar reasons and Simon really HAS (panicked/seen sense) and gone back to basics - there's a chance.

It's for young people as in school kids plus their parents, The 18-35 age group wouldn't touch itwith a barge pole.

Really? My mates vary between 20-30 and some don't have children yet they watch it, are you just taking about your friends or relatives - I know plenty of 20-40 age range people who watch the show!

There are teenagers / young adults who post on Twitter about the show,

This is quite right, and there are a lot of 50 + age group that also watch. It attracts viewers of all ages these days, where it was aimed at a young audience to begin with.

It really wasn't aimed at kids when it first started. It was a family show that featured peformers from their mid teens to their 50's. The likes of G4, Steve Brookstein and Rowetta would never appeal to younger viewers, but that didn't matter because there were other acts that did.

I think this was when the show lost it way. It ditched the family show, appeal to everyone ideal and started trying to be young and hip and failed miserably. It isn't what people want to watch on a Saturday night, they want to be entertained.

Just look at this forum, it should be buzzing with it coming back tonight but it's not. I'll be amazed if the first episode gets even close to what the first epiosde of GBBO got the other night.

I agree that it has no chance of competing with the figures that the GBBO gets.

This show needs to do more than change judging panels and presenters, this show just needs to do different types of Music and it would get people interested in watching the show.

For example my Dad just sees it as a Pop show and his into his Rock Music, and to be honest it's not even just a Pop show, it's a I wannabe Whitney Houston type of Pop show.

It needs to think out of that mindset if it's to survive.

The problem is people do not buy niche acts. Look at 2012 - they had a harmony group in District3, a niche duo in MK1, Lucy Spraggan, James Arthur... the first three struggled in the votes whilst James needed to go through a bottom two appearance to win.

I think The X Factor's biggest problem is they don't know which direction to head in. Are they after the young audience, keep hold of the old audience, family audiences? Last year made a huge mistake of trying to appeal to the younger audience resulting in a lot of other people in different demographics switching off. Now they seem to be trying to appeal to an older audience but is it too little too late? They really should have just switched Gary for Simon in 2014 rather than bringing in Mel B and Cheryl.

Yes when the lose a bit of each demographic they try to chase it back and never get it back.

They want an older audience back but in turn they will lose more of the younger audience

They may do MacArthur Park at sometime to pull in the baking fanciers.

So far it is absolutely terrible. The auditions are a rio off from The Voice with the swivel chairs.

I'm afraid Ive just switched off. Absolute drivel. The 'backing' music has obviously been dubbed over afterwards, even the singing sounds like it's been tinkered with.

I might try again tommorrow.
