If you do buy an iPhone, don't buy now.
The new iPhones are coming out in 2-3 weeks and even if you don't buy one of these latest models, there will be price cuts on the 6s models. The most obvious advantage of buying an iPhone is you'll get all the latest software updates for the next 4-5 years. With Android, you're lucky to get 2 years of device support before they expect you to buy a new device - even Google Nexus devices are falling into this standard. I'll leave all the flame war stuff for everyone else in regards to performance and security. |

What is your experiences with Android and IOS? And what are the significant differences between them? Thanks Both systems have all of this, and there's nothing major that one system can do which the other can't. What it comes down to really is personal preference, I'll rank what I think the best aspects are of each. Apple IOS Polished and more perfected user experience end to end More curation of apps and slightly better app security Better if you run lots of Apple products and sync things across devices Great for updates, everyone gets them on the day of release and you are guaranteed updates Store support, need help go to an Apple store and they will book you in and sort it out Android More open source, more free or lower cost apps You can customise your experience a lot more Wide variety of phones from different makers, meaning more options in terms of design and hardware features Can normally mod or put different software on if you want to Can be lower cost (not always) but there are extremely good Android phones out there for very good prices I'd say it's really down to personal preference, no one of them is 'better' because 'better' is subjective to the person who is buying and what they rank as the most important things to them, they are both 'different'. I deliberately spread myself about, I use IOS on my iPad, I use Android on my phone, I'm typing this on my Windows laptop having just finished work using my work supplied Macbook where I spent a large amount of the day using Linux via SSH to manage servers. |

Another vote for android, great OS, always used it, prefer stock devices to ones that like to put a skin on top. Would never buy an iPhone, but that's just my personal preference

@thine wonk pretty much summed it up well
![]() They're different. Personally, and as a software engineer, I was with android for quite a long time, but after much frustration with app, OS quality & slow updates, I switched to iPhone 6s+ in Sep last year. That price sting was high, but you know what? Zero regrets. Pretty much everything about the experience is better for me (and in part the fact I can't play so much could be a good thing..........) |

It's nice to see a thread that mostly hasn't resorted to the standard stuff though ![]() Both Android and iOS have pros and cons. Android tends to have the newer features these days, apple has the better choice of peripherals to buy. Decide your budget and see what you can buy. Either way I would definitely wait until the next gen iPhones are out and also the 2016 Nexus phones are due a fairly imminent release. |

You may want to speak to iPhone 4s users about this one. Still sold worldwide until September 2014, and in India until February this year - yet allegedly no iOS 10 support.

Apple can't support the iPhone 4S forever. 5 years is good going. It's much better than the support you get on android devices. We have phones like the S5 and LG G3 released in 2014 which won't be getting nougat.
Didn't want to get into the whole "vs" argument. There are genuinely pros and cons to each side - but to blanket statement made was a little misleading. Buy a Nexus and you'll get 2 or 3 years of updates with all features (excluding where hardware restricts). Buy an iPhone and you may get an extra year or so of updates but it may be a restricted version. EDIT - worth also noting that with Android more and more of the features are managed by applications rather than OS meaning that updates can be rolled out very quickly. Dialler, launcher, Gmail/inbox, calendar, contacts, play store, services etc are all apps that get updated regularly. This is partly why the OS updates on Android are, arguably, becoming less exciting. They are more about under the bonnet changes (performance, battery life, split screen etc) and supporting new hardware (iris scanners etc) than they are about significant changes to the look and feel or feature set. |

I will tell you an absolute truth in simple words. If you are an android user then the chances of not liking an iPhone or iOS is pretty high. Means, you might not going to like it. But if you are an iOS user (or iPhone user) then you will realize the differences between iOS and Android. And you will like your iOS more than Android.

Plenty move from android to apple and from apple to android. You may have a personal preference but not everyone agrees with you

It's OK Motorola promising Android 7 for the Moto G. I don't give a stuff, I'd rather have a secure version 5 or 6 first. |

I've had both and use iOS on, iPad and Android on my Nexus phone. I prefer the keyboard on my phone (and I've tried just about every iOS keyboard and the Google one is similar but not as good as the Android Google keyboard). Notifications are far superior on Android although iOS has copied the best features so looks superficially similar.
The app selection is similar but you may find differences in functionality due to the OS and app store policies (eg IFTTT app) Where iOS wins is battery life and stability. The number of times I've flashed an android update and my phone grinds to a halt, or it just has a few days of poor battery life and performance. I realise these are most likely app problems but it is more pronounced on android. Other than that it's a personal preference - many feed iOS looks dated and hasn't changed much in years, others don't like the fragmentation you get with Android. The Google rewards app means I rarely pay for an app as my account always had plenty of credit on, but family sharing on iOS is far better (especially as I use Google apps so I can't use the Android equivalent at all) I'm waiting to see what the iPhone 7 and the new Nexus phone is like before I make the jump... |

Apple or Android
My advice is go to an Apple or any phone store and try out an iPhone and see how it works since you already have an Android phone. Then compare them and choose the phone and operating system that you like the best. |

You can't start a family group with a Google apps account.. We all have our own with domains. With hindsight I should have used a standard Google account many years ago 😀

I moved from Android to Apple 4 or 5 months ago and although I did like Android I do like Apple. I'm not to keen on ITunes as a music player though and now use Spottify a lot on my IPhone. 5s. I had an IPad Mini 4 for last 2 month before I got my IPhone 5s.
My sister as been using an IPhone ever since the IPhone 3 came out and upgrades every 18 months or so. Darren |

Ok. You've lost me
Google apps account ?Allows you to have gmail and other google products branded with your domain name and company logo. For a while you could get this for free (for 10 users) but no new free accounts can be set up. Lots of US universities and lots of small businesses use this. Competes with MS Office 365 email etc. |

As someone on the cusp of jumping ship to iOS from Android I'm interested in what I might miss from a notifications perspective. Thanks. |
