iniltous, you have a very odd posting history.
Of all the different topics and discussions you only seem to show up in threads with either BT in the title, or in the discussion, that don't cast BT in the best of lights. And then have a cleverly understated but pro BT stance on them. Go on, admit it, you work for BT or a PR/social media monitoring and manipulation agency on BT's payroll.... |

I left BOTH BT (telecoms & FTTC) and Sky (TV) this year and not had a problem with either process. In fact I'm going back to BT for both BB & TV next week. The only time I had a problem with BT in 5 years was in trying to persuade CS in India that my BB being down was external to my property and not an internal wiring fault.
It turned down the whole cabinet was down and nobody in the street with fibre had service. |

![]() There is no reason to contact the former ISP and put up with any nonsense. If you use this method they wont even bother trying to call you to haggle a deal since the migration process has already started. The only exception is if you need to cease the line completely, such as if you are moving to cable or simply do not need it anymore. In this case you will almost certainly get charged a cease fee no matter who your provider is. |

I had to pay £30 for leaving BT back in May because we went with Virgin Media in mid contract with BT because of BT's price increase in July Ofcom rules you can leave if your provider increases prices during your contract, it was a good excuse to leave we had BT TV as well we now just have Virgin Phone & 200meg broadband no pay TV from Virgin, I don't think I would go back to BT on the day of being connected to Cable BT turned the broadband off at 6 am! good job I was first call from Virgin in the morning at just after 9am BT don't half have some sharp practice going on

I had BT years ago on dialup and wanted to move so I cancelled the service, all of it I thought but according to them only the dialup, Openworld or something like that .
Anyway they said the computer would cut me off (the landline) and there was nothing they could do ..... unless of course I paid the £35-37 bill , I had witheld that part of the bill because in my opinion I didn't owe it. Even if this hadn't happened I can not see any value in BT and they have always been the same, highest prices and not great customer service (10 years ago) ? It was a long time ago but I didn't like the 'the computer will disconnect your phone, not me' threats. EDIT: So I payed it and vowed never to go back, its an easy vow to keep. |

I got another letter today saying I will have to pay for BT Sport from now on. I have been verbally assured it has been cancelled 3 times now. I await the debt collectors letters which will start in a month or so.
Ironically I have just signed a 2 year mobile contract with EE, owned by BT. But I'm on business with no complicated freebies so I'm hoping that's enough distance. No other network is any good where I live. Maybe in 2 years, I will have some options. |

When my father in law died we notified BT to cancel his account. It wasn't easy (we need to speak to the customer himself!) but eventually succeded. We then got a letter addressed to the deceased saying - Sorry you are leaving, we hope you will consider coming back to us soon........

We have been dealing with my dad's BT Business account, where they messed up a premises move.
He's somehow been paying for two broadband connections, one of which is on a phone line that doesn't even exist. Had to email the BT CEO to get someone intelligent to look at it and fix it. |

Stereo_Steve you are not alone. My Mum cancelled and switched to Talk Talk, BT have charged her £82 for leaving, not even sure where this figure is from. They are trying to say she is still under contract, which isn't true.
Anyway, just to say I have sorted it out for her through Resolver on Martin Lewis's website - moneysavingexpert - try that. My poor Mum at 80 years old was very upset at the way BT were treating her. She kept phoning them to say she wasn't still in contract, they said they would call her back - this happened about 10 times, not once did they call her back. I went home for Christmas, went through Resolver on Moneysavingexpert and lo and behold - the charges were reduced to £42 in 2 days time. After the way they have treated my mother an 80 year old pensioner, I wouldn't touch BT with a barge pole! |

Unfortunately, Natasha, it is very probable that she would have had much the same problem with any of them. Modern big companies are so impersonal and blind to people's feelings.
Even 20 years ago I had a battle on my hands when my dad's bank, shortly after having been advised of his death, started sending letters addressed to him by name - my poor old mum was really upset by it. |

Since computers became the standard on how to store customer details/records, the 'personal touch' has almost disappeared. I dropped my repeat prescription in the box at the doctors a couple of weeks ago, called back 2 days later to pick it up ..... ''sorry its not on the system'' said the receptionist .... ''someone has lost it then because I know I put it in the box 2 days ago'' . It wasn't an emergency and I got my prescription the next day its just that the screen in front of the receptionist was like God and couldn't lie. |
