I don't watch the other soaps so I can't really compare, but I adore ED and I've always thought it had an advantage over the other soaps because of it's outdoor set, which is lovely, but so underused.

According to interviews being given by the Vanessa actress, the idea for Tracey and Vanessa to be sisters was the idea of the two actresses involved. For me, that's a worrying turn of events.

Of course, we all have different perspectives, but I'm not sure how anyone could have watched that fight in the pub yesterday and considered that to be acceptable for transmission. It was embarassing. My husband watched it and said he'd seen better fights acted and directed on Grange Hill 30 years ago.

I don't rate this EP at all, but I live in hope that things will pick up.
My partner had a similar reaction to the catfight. He looked at me open-mouthed and said "how the hell can you watch this?"

I guess it all depends if you like this kind of broad slapsticky stuff, or don't. I guess it's not supposed to be realistic, but I prefer something a bit more vaguely related to reality.

I agree with the OP, Emmerdale has gone down in quality lately, its not horrible but its not great either. If I were giving it a grade I'd give it a C. They do have good dialog and some of the character interactions are funny but the stories aren't too great with Coira breaking up and Chrissie's ridiculous transformation being the worst. The only story keeping me entertained is Belle's meltdown

From what has been broadcast since the new EP took over I'm not all that confident in his abilities but it's early days I suppose. Take David for example a character going through cancer and yet they've made him the most annoying prick on the show, how does that work?

There's been too much "padding out" with children taking centre stage. They stopped doing it for a while and now we have a newly transformed and too mature she devil child, April, dominating scenes.
David gets on my last nerve and the she devil transformation of Chrissie is beyond ridiculous.
Same applies to Vanessa who's now a bitching cat fighting adolescent.

I think he's fine, they can't please all of us all the time though. I quite like the idea they show a cancer sufferer as less than perfect, seen too many shows where cancer or something is used to make us think they are somehow wonderful people really, when in fact although it can change you it's not often you become a saint.

David has never been a wonderful person, he's always been annoying but the way he pesters Tracey is beyond how annoying he usually is. I wouldn't mind if the cancer finished him off.

I agree with this. If I was Tracey I'd have dumped David by now. If he's this controlling when they're not married imagine what he'd be like if they did get married.

Im still loving Emmerdale, best soap watching in years. Though as has been briefly mentioned in earlier posts here...the Tracy/David and Tracy/Vanessa stuff is the first storyline in a couple years that is giving me pause. I guess it couldn't be batting at 100% forever. But I really hope it isnt a sign of other similarly silly plots and focus on weaker/less interesting characters like Tracy.

I think Tracey is putting up with David's antics since has cancer. I think if he were healthy she wouldn't put up with that crap, actually if he were healthy I'd hope he weren't doing the stupid daily proposals.

That's a fair point. I've never liked David though and he's really making me cringe now.

I used to like him but this story with him and Tracy is too repetitive and goes no where. The proposing everyday is annoying and wouldn't even work on a sitcom

I started watching Emmerdale when I saw the Soap awards and it looked good. There are a couple of characters I find annoying but so far I am enjoying it.

I think ED is by far the best Soap there is atm, and I think it's in great form.
IF you think getting cain & charity back together again then you must be easily pleased

I feel it was much better today and of a more normal standard.

I can't bear Charity full stop. I dislike Chrissies sudden multiple personality disorder and Tracey is just awful

but I still thought it was a good episode

Emmerdale is my favourite at the moment and that's coming from a big EE fan. EE is doing well too and I think we're in for a great autumn.

I just don't find the stories believable at all. It's ridiculous for 2 people who have been living with each other & best mates to suddenly be revealed as sisters. Out of all the people in the world it just so happens to be the one ur living with, yea right.. Absolute bollocks all for sensationalism. ED is obsessed with these stupid stories that make no sense. They should get someone in who knows how to make a proper down to earth rural soap..

The seeds of David being a prick is when he let Alicia go to Portugal alone.

I agree with this and cannot compare with Coronation Street or EE as I don't watch them so don't know about the current standard of episodes but I have felt that recently Emmerdale has been going through a bit of a bonkers character re-writing which I don't much care for.

I have watched for many years and Jimmy has been through a puzzling number of transformations and he is now a "comedy" plonker again. Such a shame and I think he and Nicola are lovely together as are Kerry and Dan but you can see the seeds being sown of discord there which is such a shame.

Charity and Cain - well such a disappointment.

Chrissie looks like a pantomime dame sometimes, Rakesh is unrecognisable as the smart lawyer he once was and Vanessa is like a schoolgirl ranting at Tracey, although part of me doesn't mind that as I fast forward through Tracey's scenes as I cannot take to her at all. David has become a bit of a caricature too.

Maybe I am just a bit jaundiced as I did not care for the Paddy storyline, don't care for Pierce and Lawrence is not a central character really. But, these things go in peaks and troughs so I will just keep watching for the bits I like and ignore the bits I don't!

Ye & why the hell is it like a low-rent crime drama?. Every time something goes down Cain is there to save the day. It doesn't feel accurate to me of what it'd be like to live in a rural village. I'm guessing the reason why there's so much sensationalism is to appease the twitter generation. They've ruined everything that once had a bit of substance..

And now I've just seen Belle turn up on a bus that Charity was about to get on. ****inell who writes this shit!. I thought this new producer was supposed to take the show back to its roots & make it more grounded, so much for that.. He's basically a continuation of Oates' awful latter years with his own twisted shitty Hollyoaks spin on it for good measure.

If a soap is making you this angry, I think you should just switch off tbh

I groaned when I saw Paddy back last night. That's the last thing we need.

The Tess/Paddy affair was so lacking in depth it only served to make both look like absolutely wretched people. I see no way back for him now. Besides the show is not short on buffoons, they still have Bob, Rodney, Jimmy and sometimes Dan fulfilling the quota. Rhona has more life in her with this Pierce bloke than she ever had with Paddy.
