But general knowledge is just that though - general.

The stuff you pick up on your journey through life.

We're all learning stuff all the time - from each other, the media, social media, cornflakes packet.............unless you're Marnie of course.
Ptoblem is with a certain element these days is they ring give a crap about anything outside of their own little bubble. The lack of general knowledge from some of the extremely well educated younger people in work is shocking. There seems to be an attitude that you don't actually need to know anything as you can just google

Wow, i never knew Goerge Micheal is the key to young people's journey to "general knowledge"?
Lets be honest, what has George Micheal (not wham) done in the last 10 years in music/media that was not about what ended up on the front pages a couple of times? I bet more young people under the age of 20 would know and remember who Boy George is...

She should be evicted for her musical ignorance alone

What have The Beatles done in the past 10 years? Or Elvis Presley? Do you think she might have heard of those?

Now she really will be banished to hell if she never knew them....but i still think Beatles, Elivis Presley's names and legacy has been mentioned in current music culture more than George Micheal. Even the 2 living out of the 5 has done a lot more than George "the media hermit" Micheal.

Wham is bigger than George Micheal at this point for that generation...

On that pointless programme only 28 out of 100 knew who was prime minister during ww2 l
That's also scary who are these people
I wonder how many of them were aware there were actually three British PMs during WWII?

In any event that sounds like the sort of answer that would make me shout at the tv screen as happens fairly regularly when watching daytime TV

But wasn't the best way to 'win' that game to get the answers wrong and NOT risk a pie on the head? I think I'd have deliberately got the answers wrong so as not the have to pull a rope.

Maybe, just maybe Marnie twigged that?

Of course she knows who he is.

Can you imagine if George Michael had appeared as a celebrity housemate in this series?
How many of them wouldn't know who he is? No, there's no way that I believe that she doesn't know who George Michael is.

Oh right, was not watching it but got the impression from the forum that it was just a general convo.

Are we now judging intelligence by musical knowledge?

Marnie was a child when he last had a hit. He's done very little for over a decade.

Hang on, hang on... What goes in a toaster? Toast!

I don't think we're relying on her musical knowledge here.

Kind of yes.

That and the fact that she didn't know you put bread in a toaster and thought she got the correct answer when she replied 'toast'

And as for your 'he's done nothing for over a decade' comment - what has that got to do with anything?

Last Christmas is played everywhere, every single year in this country and has been for years, and loads of the music I love was made by people who are now dead.

No, just general knowledge. You don't have to be a contemporary to have heard of someone, however he is a contemporary of Marnie's. We're not talking about a politician from 1750's Sudan. George Michael is a British pop singer with a string of hits spanning 30 years or more who is still recording. Pop!

The fact is, she probably just didn't think it through. To genuinely not know who George Michael is would show pretty poor general knowledge though.

"Who's Heinzstein?" - Jade Goody, BB3
"Who's Shakespeare?" - Brian Belo, BB8
"Who's George Michael?" - Marnie Simpson, CBB18

It wasn't funny the first time.

Bing Crosby has been dead for about 40 years but everyone in Christendom knows the song White Christmas.

How long has John Lennon been dead, or Mozart?

WTF does having a RECENT hit have to do with anything?

Sheesh.

Theh original is always best though and there can be absolutely no doubt that Jade Goody was thick.

Not her fault - she missed loads of school because she was busy being carer to her mother

I put toast in a toaster.

And extra 30 seconds worth to get both sides even.

The first 2 would be on a school curriculum.

They wouldn't bother teaching about the last one.
