Watching downloaded iplayer content on tv via iPad

We are hoping to travel to the US next year and, from previous trips, know that the standard of tv programming there is not the best.

Sometimes you just want to chill out in your hotel room or rental property.

I had planned to download some stuff from BBC iPlayer on to my iPad and was wondering if there is a way that I could connect my iPad to the TV's in rental properties so that we could both watch without having to huddle around the iPad screen?

If the TV is equipped with HDMI inputs and you can get an HDMI output from the iPad then you might just be able to connect the iPad to the TV. Whether it would work or not is another matter. UK and US TV standards are different so you could find the TV can't handle a UK spec video signal.

HDMI adapters are available for a number of iPad variants so you should be able to find one compatible with your particular model. Then just pair that with a suitable length HDMI lead and cross your fingers it all works.

Chromecast is an option if you will have a wifi network you can use, £30.

If wifi is not available then the 3rd Generation Apple TV can stream from an iPad without the need for wifi. It sets up its own network connection between the two devices, just needs power. £59 new or currently available at £49 from the Apple refurb store. Have used it several times abroad without problems.

Thanks for the advice.

A quick google would seem to suggest that I can't use chromecast for downloaded programmes and, of course, you can't access iPlayer outside of the UK.

I am hoping that, most evenings, we'll be doing something a bit more interesting than sitting in watching TV so perhaps we will just have to put up with watching the small iPad screen.

Without a definite answer as to whether we can watch UK content on a US TV it probably isn't worth shelling out for the appropriate adapter to connect my iPad to an HDMI lead - I notice on Amazon that some of the reviews imply that it doesn't always work all that well.

On European holidays I just take a selection of DVD's but, of course, they won't work in the US either .

I appreciate the help though - thanks.
