WhatsApp users to receive adverts

WhatsApp says it will begin sharing more data with Facebook and will start letting some companies send messages to users.
It is the first time the company has changed its privacy policy since the firm was bought by Facebook in 2014.
WhatsApp will now share users' phone numbers with the social network, which it will use to provide "more relevant" friend suggestions and advertisements.
One analyst said some people might feel "betrayed" by the move.

I'm not to happy about this. I always pay to keep my apps add free and to reward the developer.
I had just renewed my subscription and paid for a 3 years subscription when they decided to make it free. Did we get a refund...... nope
It's a great app but i would rather pay a couple of quid a year to keep it add freed. There aught to be a choice imo....free with adds or pay with no adds

No ads yet, though if I do end up with ads, I'll be removing WhatsApp as well (as I don't use MMS that much anyway).

I can see this being a rather large own goal for facebook. It'll be interesting to see the daily usage statistics once people start to find out their phone number is being shared.

Hopefully more people will switch to an alternative solution (or use one that's bundled with the phone, like Google's new messaging services).

I only use whatsapp because people tell me to get it. I'm happy with SMS, but sometimes it's nice to send pictures or do group conversations.

Plenty of alternatives, once one gets momentum (like whatscrapp did) they will be toast!
