Perhaps it's some version of 'bread and circuses' or something. It's the legitimising of the behaviour that shocks me. The acceptance that it's ok. It really, really isn't. It's massively destructive, it's misery making.

Every single last thing he does isn't just applauded because it's 'good for the show' etc (which I could understand on some level) it's actively and vociferously condoned and defended.
