Absolutely. There is reason at all why both the man and woman couldn't be the same height and still look good, especially since in ballroom the man's and woman's relative posture slightly disguise the height difference, with the lady's poise being such that her body is towards the left with slight (not exaggerated) backward tilt from the hips, whereas the man's poise is straighter. In particular a good male professional will pick up more and look taller than he really is.

"Hate" has nothing to so with anything. it's a horrid word, and I'm sure no one hates Janette. . I'm sure she is a lovely girl, and as you say Aljaz loves her. But that doesn't alter the fact that the standard of her ballroom is poor.

Good point. I recall Brendan saying that he liked a woman whose head position meant she would be a little shorter than him. Equal or taller women only present an issue when lifting I would imagine.

I am not concerned about her ballroom skills or lack thereof, and I do not care if she is sweet or not, I am talking about the fact that everytime the subject comes up the same people take their time to attack her on it, over and over again, how many times do the same people have to make the same point if not to make her look bad as many times as they can? the subject matter is height differences when partnering, not ballroom expertise, Bendymixer remarks were sarcastic and had nothing to do with the subject at hand.
If you want to go ahead and defend those who spend their lives on the internet criticizing other for what they themselves have not been able to achive, then be my guest.

I feel for latin dancers it doesn't seem to matter too much, but for competitive ballroom dancers, ladies height with shoes should ideally be around the same height, give or take an inch or two. There have been and are currently Pro's that have substantial differences in height and they cope admirably. The balance of couples of a similar height is one thing, plus the personal centres and the centres of the couple will be of similar height from floor, essential for power, weight shift and swing.
Of course SCD is not a competition but I still don't like to see big height differences from an aesthetic viewpoint.

I wonder if you are taking exception to comments made as they differ to your opinion? The difference here is Bendymixers opinion is not opinion per se, it is opinion based on solid fact. An opinion I share too.

As Jennifer F rightly said, Bendymixer's opinion, like that of others of us who are involved and experienced in the world of ballroom & Latin dancing, is based on fact, not sarcasm. None of us said anything derogatory about Janette herself as a person, just one aspect of her dancing.

Is it Bendimixer's opinion? yes, does Bendimixer has the right to say it? yes, and I have the right to say that she brings it up everytime she has an opportunity to take a swipe at Janette, that was a cheap attempt from a Ballroom Judge who claims to have meet Janette through third party "friends' some of whom only dream of being on Strictly.

Very well, keeping it to the subject of height difference..... According to post no. 19 on this thread, Aljax said he wouldn't be able to dance a romanitc waltz with Janette because of the height difference. I'm afraid that is nonsense.
Maybe he couldn't dance a competitively decent waltz with her because of the height difference, but there is absolutely no reason why they couldn't dance a lovely, personal, romantic waltz together, for their own enjoyment. If anyone thinks it is impossible, they should trot along to a decent medallist competition and watch how many juveniles (under 12yrs) dance with their teachers who are often anything up to 6'. Waltzes, foxtrots, tangos - you name it, they can do it, and very beautiful they look too (and they're often a great deal shorter than Janette).

I agree with you, there is nothing to stop them from dancing a romantic waltz because of the height difference, maybe he was talking more on a competitive level. I watched them dance a very romantic Rumba at the BBC Proms and height didn't seem to be a problem, albeit the difference in style. Link below.

No its normal. She is showing fabulous rise and fall, through wonderful use of her ankles. You can see lovely usage of inside edges too. Jo has the most wonderful technique, she was known throughout her competitive career as one of the best, if not the very best technical dancers, and this came from years of training from a little girl. She told me that she can remember even as a tiny little girl, dancing in a hand held hold with her teacher, the teacher ensuring that she executed all the footwork correctly, time and time again It. is exactly this quality that I look for when watching lady dancers. Solid technique is the foundation of great dancers.
