Unreal - born in 1870 apparently. His documents have been verified in Indonesia, but not yet independently apparently. I guess if that happens then he will beat the record for the oldest person in the world by a considerable margin.

I highly doubt it.

Sorry but I just don't accept that at all. How can he be 'ready to die' when he has the chance to live until 150? Who does that?

If it's true, it'd be interesting to see what his diet consists of.

Why would anyone want to live that long, though, when you have outlived all your friends and family?

Gaahh .. i've done it again. I keep forgetting that everything is a lie unless DS says so.

I think I'll wait until either the BBC or ITV reports on this. They won't report his age as being 145 until it has been proven.

Even his grandchildren would be pushing 100 if he was 145!

I highly doubt this is true.

Well I suppose for DS, it would be pictures, blood and hair samples, three independent witnesses and a sworn statement by a judge. for starters ..

Actually, if he really is that old, it would be very interesting if his DNA etc could be examined after he does eventually die, to see what it might reveal about longevity. Clearly such a lifespan is massively beyond the expected, so there must surely be something unusual about his genetic profile.

I wonder why his birth certificate is dated 2014. Maybe they copied the details from other documentation.

He does look young for his age. I mean he could easily pass for 110

I'd wager that's not his birth certificate - it looks more like some kind of official ID card.

But you're right though, studying his DNA would be fascinating.

This is so much longer than usual that it's fair to be suspicious, but I guess it's also easy to understand why these cases might be hidden. If a patient turns up in hospital saying they're 145 my guess is 99.99% of the time they'd be dismissed as "confused". They probably wouldn't have any documents to begin to prove it, no-one would check them anyway, and if even all your grandchildren have died then it's quite possible there won't be family members who can 100% confirm who you are.

So: I doubt it, but very interesting if it's true.

Not really. It's just that generally, especially in science and health-related fields, if a claim is made that is particularly unusual it's the norm to confirm it before accepting it as fact.

I've certainly made no suggestion this should be accepted as fact, but either way it doesn't change the fact that there are very many people on DS who seem to take great delight in immediately denouncing something as untrue based seemingly on the fact that they said so.

Lots of elderly people are ready and waiting to die, when you've lost all your close people/family before you get there I can imagine life gets a bit lonely.
