Gaahh .. i've done it again. I keep forgetting that everything is a lie unless DS says so.
You posted a link to a story that most people, quite rightly, think is a lot of rubbish. Nobody is having a go at you, they're simply indicating that the man's claims sound like a load of pish. |

Why are you spitting the dummy out?.
But hey ho, if thinking i'm "spitting the dummy out" or "throwing my toys out of the pram" gives you a nice warm feeling of superiority then go right ahead, and make sure to duck when the action man whizzes past your ear ![]() Quote:
I was gonna post something similar but you beat me to it! Nobody can live to 145, It's simply not possible yet, unless the guy is an Alien or something.

Brian Appleyard * has said that the first person to live for a thousand years has already been born
* not quite as authoritative as I thought he was (like not Professor Brian Appleyard) Futurologists eh. 1000 years no problem, 10 years I'll get back to you. I'll confidently predict anything that happens after I'm dead |

Exactly, for some - conspiracy theorists.
For normal people, it may sound credible that Simon Cowell secretly dyes his hair whilst labelling the claim by a Nigerian that he is 171-years-old as hokum. What's wrong with that? It's what used to be called common sense in the pre-millennial era. In my case, the accusations of lying accompanied anecdotal threads involving perfectly credible everyday situations. Not everyone on the thread, obviously. But you can guarantee there will always be at least one who says "I'm calling bullshit on this", which, when you know damn well it's hard fact, is incredibly irritating. |

Don't need to be to know men cannot live to 145. You have a rather unpleasant attitude.
If you take another species, a cat for example. The average lifespan for a cat is 15 to 17 years - link The record age for a cat is 38 - link Quote:
Creme Puff (cat) Creme Puff (August 3, 1967 – August 6, 2005) was an American cat who died aged 38 years and 3 days (or 168 cat years). She was the oldest cat ever recorded, according to the 2010 edition of Guinness World Records. Creme Puff lived with her owner, Jake Perry, in Austin, Texas.
Which is more than twice the average, and 168 by human standards. If that can happen with one animal species, it follows that it can happen with another. Admittedly, such instances will be exceedingly rare, but with a world population of however many billion it is, you simply cannot rule out the possibility of a given individual living to an exceptional age. |

Can you provide even some cursory evidence to back up your claim or is it a case of men can't live to 145 because you have said so ? According to Wikipedia, in 2013 it was estimated that there were more than 100 uncontacted tribes around the world. Can you definitively say that not one person in any of these tribes has lived a longer life ?. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncontacted_peoples |

Remember 20 years ago when the record breaking Jeane Calment was still alive in her 120s? Well even she was not born until 1875 compared to supposed 1870 of this guy, were there many articles and photos of him back then to rubbish her oldest ever claims if she was not even oldest alive then by some 4 or 5 years?
At that time I would have thought all with older claims would have disputed it? It would be nice to believe but anyone over 120 needs a lot of evidence. Since Jeane nobody has proven to reach 120 again. |

I'd wager that's not his birth certificate - it looks more like some kind of official ID card.

Unreal - born in 1870 apparently. His documents have been verified in Indonesia, but not yet independently apparently. I guess if that happens then he will beat the record for the oldest person in the world by a considerable margin.

This guy is 145 as surely as I'm Napoleon Bonaparte in a Mankini riding a pantomime horse containing Christopher Biggins and Sid James in the Grand National. |

You can't equate feline years to human years so simply. It doesn't work like that. They are mature by the age of one, able to reproduce by around 9 months. Their life span works differently so the comparison is meaningless.
It's a perfectly valid comparison. |

That's right, the second oldest-ever person verified was Sarah Knauss, an American who reached 119 years 97 days. Jeanne Calment was 122 years 164 days. Further, they are the only two people to have reached 118, as the third person on the list, another American named Lucy Hannah, died aged 117 years 248 days.
Or, depending on your belief, the three oldest ever people are Methuselah (969), Noah (950) and Adam (930)......... The same person doubted the claim of Jeanne Calment to be the longest living human. |

On the current list there seem to be quite a few people in Japan who are still living, at 116 or so, Emma Morano of Italy is still alive at 116 years, 273 days.

When I read this story I instantly thought of the final lines of 'The Green Mile'.
I lie in bed most nights, thinking about it. And I wait. I think about all the people I've loved, now long gone. I think about my beautiful Jan, and how I lost her so many years ago. I think about all of us walking our own Green Mile, each in our own time. But one thought, more than any other, keeps me awake most nights. If he could make a mouse live so long, how much longer do I have? We each owe a death, there are no exceptions, but sometimes, oh God, the Green Mile is so long. |
