Emmerdale is becoming unwatchable...

I don't quite get the "you should stop watching" argument. I understand the sentiment, but the logic seems lacking.

1. People are only this vocal in their disappointment because they care about the show, the characters, and often the storylines and feel as though they're not being used in the way that they deserve. When you see great actors being given crap scripts (or no scripts at all), when you see sensitive issues being used for a cheap laugh, or when characters or relationships are destroyed for the sake of headlines, you just want to get your voice heard in the hope that some change for the better may come of it. It's not a case of moaning for the sake of it.

2. If everyone who doesn't enjoy the show at present were to stop watching, viewing figures would dwindle. Follow this same advice over and over again when the remaining viewers aren't happy and ED would surely end up with a grand total of...... well, 0 people watching?

I'm really enjoying the show right now, and It seems that a lot on here are too as in the weekly poll Emmerdale has been voted as the "best soap" for three weeks in a row. It does have It's faults namely David/Tracey and the constant partner swapping, but aside from that I think everything is fine.

I've read the spoilers for the next few weeks and Laurel isn't mentioned at all apart from this week

I don't think Laurel appears in that much episodes either.

In my opinion, Charlotte Bellamy is one of the best actresses in the show and I can't wait to see the upcoming story of Ashley's dementia. When it comes to drama, John and Charlotte nail it every time.

Dan should never be accepted as a paramedic as he can't be trusted not to be intimate with patients. Moira took her bra off in the car to have sex with James, then left without it; she is a big girl for her age and would have noticed the lack of support as soon as she got out of the car and fell flat on her face. Did Kerry leave her bra in the car when she had sex with Ross? It would be interesting to know what age group the directors of Emmerdale are aiming at now; it certaily isn't the middle-aged loyal watchers.”

You are funny. When did this happen? I watch Emmerdale and I don't remember this happening.

I think Emmerdale winnng the poll has to do more with the people who are voting in your poll. Maybe you could change it and do a poll to give each soap a letter grade or rate each soap on a scale from 1 to 10. You might get different results.

As for Emmerdale being unwatchable, its not to that point but the quality has gone down but they need to fix the issues cuz its only going to get worse. They need to stop playing musical beds with all the characters end this ridiculous bad bitch impersonation that is Chrissie and start telling some more entertaining stories. Right now the show kind of feels like its in neutral nothing is really happening...except for bed hopping

It's been great without her. I thought it was just me who didn't like her, nice to know I'm not alone

I don't agree as a lot of the ED viewers that vote in the poll also watch Corrie and Eastenders. There are quite a few people here that aren't enjoying Emmerdale at the moment, but there are more that are enjoying it, as the poll shows.

How about a monthly one Ben?

But the monthly winner would just be the soap that has won the most amount of weeks that month, which again is Emmerdale.

I agree Charlotte's a great actress, I just can't stand the character of Laurel.

IDK, you could be right but then if you look people on here have been talking about how much better Hollyoaks has been but it rarely gets any votes. I will be interested to see the results of next week's poll, from the spoilers it sounds like its going to be a very bad week so I can't see Emmerdale being the best soap.

If that's true why not do it then?

It got 8 votes last week Mark, the highest it's got since I started the polls I think there are less Hollyoaks viewers than the other three too, so that is also a contributing factor as to why it doesn't do so well.

Maybe it's just summer silly season. Maybe it'll pick up, in which case I'll probably keep watching. If it doesn't, I won't. Then I'll stop posting as well.”

Same here.

I'm sure it'll pick up soon, I think I'm just easily pleased at the moment because I'm not as invested after a poor year. I have every intention of quitting the show for a while if things don't start getting better by December.

The show needs more Barton boys, a bit more serious stories and more stories that have a definable arc.
It's already less chaotic lately with fewer stories per episode.

MORE CRAP last night.... who said its good for continuity? paddy returned in a taxi..... he left driving his car...

..... and its PADDYS HOUSE, so he is totally within his rights to insist pierce leaves. where rhona has a legal claim is another matter, but it was paddys house long before he was with rhona.

more annoying bollocks, destroying likeable characters - i like paddy, i always have.now they are going to make his life a misery for no good reason.”

Paddy is not destroyed for me. I always thought he was a prat. He's s exactly the sort to wuss out of standing up for his home and to be fair, Rhona was right to chuck him out. He behaved abominably. Legal issues of ' who gets the house' are never sorted out straight away. Once Paddy has accepted they're re separated then they'll all have to sort out who gets what, but P Addy has spent months assuming they would get back together while Rhona only gradually realised there was no chance of this. It's s unfair to criticise because we see Rhona flinging him out of the marital home for one night, unchallenged. That's s probably quite realistic and will be sorted out in due course when both take legal advice.

I' m puzzled as to what you're re expecting re continuity. There is no reason to assume Wylie's s Farm and Whiteley's s Farm are the same place. It's s a farming community there will be more than three farms. It never occurred to me that Wylie's s was meant to be a continuation of a previously mentioned farm. As it is, they DO reference the past of certain characters. However, no one has lived in the village since the beginning - how many will remember the characters of the seventies and eighties? To me the only way they can do that is by place names, and they do to some extent. I do get what you mean about the farm, but equally I don't t think they're at fault for introducing a ' new' one - if anything it reminds us that there IS a world outside of the usual beat of Emmerdale/ Hotten/Butler's Farm.

Excellent post Sam. We may not always agree but at least we can debate in a reasoned manner

Check out the other departure thread. This sounds brilliant

I do agree with that Hollyoaks doesn't get a lot of love on here Honestly though its the one I'm enjoying the most at the moment.

Tonight was a bit better already to be honest. Excluding all of the Least Convincing Gay Couple Ever Super Awkward Robron stuff, obviously.

But the writing made some vague sense. And Kerry was nicer. And Ashley was nice.

Tonight was totally brilliant I thought

I loved Roberts scene at the end

Squire Robert gets bloody brilliant lines.

I find ED' s enjoyability to be very up and down and it's s largely dependant on which characters feature heavily. So it can vary per episode

Cain- I' m a happy bunny
I also enjoy watching Carly, Bernice, Lachlan, Charity, Chas, Emma, Moira, Lawrence, Finn, Ashley, Laurel, Zak,Pierce, and can take or leave some others. I' ve very much enjoyed the additions of John McArdle and Michael Praed to the cast as both are very good actors - I' ve liked watching them perform. However, an episode featuring David and Tracey (what a shame MP is in such a terrible story) or Paddy is going to try my patience I' m afraid. I agree with points other posters make about too much bed hopping as well, especially when it seems to have come out of nowhere. Cain/ Charity has some context but
Spoiler
Nicola/Dan is just the ruination of yet another settled relationship.
. There still falling back way too much on crime as a storyline as well. One criminal family is enough. However, there are enough strong actors and characters who I am interested in to keep me viewing.

And no slapstick fighting - last nights definitely seeemed like they were struggling to fill the longer slot.

It was a good episode and Chrissie was a bit more her usual self which was good to see. Looking forward to the two big baddies facing off - I'll be team Chrissie though. Robron's smug faces are already annoying.
