And

Someone mentioned social media taking over everything in general, your right. I'm 19 and I don't have any social media accounts, i don't live on the internet like ppl on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or whatever

I can't say what the old days were like but my grandparents have told me, 3 channels, swearing-mouth washed out black and white box TV, sounds well boring to me

I have enjoyed soaps for the past 4 yrs, when I was like 15 it was soaps/TV over social media, and it always will be. I even like quiz shows over social media, I love Eggheads and the Chase. I have been buying soap magazines since I was 15, an age where you'd expect me to be on social media, but I wasn't cos it doesn't interest me

Most ppl on this forum are a lot older than me and know the history of soaps and are probably the main age soaps are aimed at. They were probably around when the first episode of coronation street aired. Like someone said, most characters are young but younger ppl don't watch them. They're in my generation group so I can enjoy them, whereas older ppl can't as much, they prefer the "legends". Some characters are chavvy and talk slang, older ppl don't understand that (no offence)”

cheeky little git!

Do you not chase pokemon either

I use social media, it has its uses. I don't think it is a choice between soaps or social media tho.

[quote=Multimedia81;83772458]I cant imagine you had soaps been abolished by 2009. We would not have discovered the legendary Paula Lane.

I wasn't watching soaps in 2009 I started watching regularly in maybe 2012 I think. Straight away Kylie became my favourite (for more reasons than one ) This suggestion came from my mum about 2 yrs ago. She said she thought soaps were getting pathetic and didn't know how much longer they'd last

At the time I couldn't see what she meant but Coronation street has been crap now since July. It's been absolute shite since Kylie left (just like I thought) Shame really. I am so excited tho to see what David does to Clayton! Hopefully kill him! Gemma is keeping me watching, I hope she gets a big story

I don't think I actually want soaps to end forever, there have been some suggestions that episodes should be less which might help. I just figured I'd get some reasons that could cause soaps to slowly die away in the next few yrs or so. I was surprised some ppl were so bothered about the suggestion cos it feels like sometimes some ppl on here can't wait for them to end. I saw some threads last yr where ppl said Corrie was becoming a joke, back when Callum was still alive. I actually enjoyed it last yr tbh. They were saying it was crap cos of Callum, I think he was quite a good baddie really

You are welcome to list some of the reasons.

I feel a bit of a vacuum within Corrie knowing that Kylie won't be back. This is why I took a few weeks out, so that I did not have to watch the immediate aftermath beyond her final episode.

Its not right without her is it? It feels like a completely different show. Whatever David does to Clayton won't bring Kylie back

Ok here are some of the reasons

1) Well she's super sexy (she is sooo fit!)
2) Great actress (Paula was the best in the show)
3) Kylie was like a female version of me, we are very similar, both feisty, mouthy, i guess I'm quite chavvy, brave, protective and ppl think I am witty. My mum often said I was like a male Kylie when she was still in the show
4) She always interested me, her stories kept me gripped
5) I just love Kylie!

They're my reasons. So Multimedia what are your reasons?

I dunno I think your just catching pokemon in pokeballs in different places. Like you could even just go into your garden and catch one

It's dangerous tho! Someone fell off a cliff while playing it!

I keep seeing people doing it when I am out walking the dog, its stressful at the country park cos they wander around waving the brightly flashing phone about not looking where they are going and they walk soooo slowly and just randomly stop and wave the phone about. I don't get what is fun about it

I wanted to get it til I discovered how dangerous it can be!

It's just the latest craze I think

Comparing the viewing figures from now and 10 years ago i cant really see that soaps will last forever.

Im 15 years old and ive been watching soaps since i was born because my Mum Watched them such as Neighbours.EastEnders and Coronation Street so i was kinda bought up watching them ive never watched Emmerdale, Home And Away or Hollyoaks because i didn't grow up watching those shows and kinda felt weird watching them because i dont no much about the characters history.

I would love for corrie, emmerdale and Eastenders to carry on as much as possible because they get reasonable viewing figures in this day and age especially for time shifted audience and +1.
However More people are watching it on on demand services such as bbc iplayer and itv hub. After my dad missed an episode of coronation street i told him about itv player and ever since then he has watched it online and never watches it live anymore for about 6 years now..After watching corrie for over 40 years.

But for some reason itv dosent publish there online ratings for itv hub. maybe there are embarrassed by there ratings compared to bbc iplayers.

My mum dosent even watch soaps or reality shows anymore for about 7 years now.. But reality tv shows seem to be giving out the best ratings in the uk such as BGT/I am celeb and x factor and also GBBO. maybe those shows could be dominating the week instead of the soaps in 10-20 years time. My mum dosent even watch soaps or reality shows anymore.

I still watch Coronation street, but I don't know about the history of the show. Tbh I wouldn't wanna. As I'm really young too I'm only bothered about modern stuff, I would never watch an episode that was on before 2010. Some ppl like to look back at the first ever episode, which they call "the good old days" whereas I only care about stories and characters from the 21st century

I have been told about old characters back when it was in black and white but wouldn't watch scenes from those days cos I wouldn't be interested in them. It's all about the 21st century eps for me. Don't give a shit about 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s eps

For me the best years of corrie would be 2003-2005 then 2007-2008 then 2010-2013

Wow! You have been quite explicit in why you liked Kylie. I would give similar reasons, and also the following:-

6) She became a nicer character as time went on. Even at the end she was befriending Freddie, helping Bethany and forgiving Gemma.

7) She got better looking as she got older.

8) She made seeing off Callum seem an exciting and courageous achievement.
Spoiler
I did admire her a bit more after that than before.

Oh I've got another thing to add to the similarities I have with her! We both have very low confidence

She did indeed get better looking as she got older! Yum! Watching clips from her first appearance she looked about 16, she had greasy hair and didn't really look up to much. I think she looks great with her hair up

They did change Kylie's make up I think which helped. She used to wear blue eyeshadow and it didn't look right. Then they made her wear proper black make up and mascara, it suited her better and made her a lot nicer looking IMO

There was a picture I saw once where she looked as tanned as Tina she's much nicer pale. Tan doesn't suit her

I also agree that she became nicer. She used to be awful on her first yr on the show judging from clips I watched. What a sneaky, manipulative, money grabbing bitch she used to be! And selling Max!? What was she thinking?
