So where have all the Bear supporters gone?

Tbh, I've found some past cbbs to be a snoozefest with hms sitting round drinking tea and barely saying anything interesting as the show blocks so much. Bear's coffee spilling antics seemed like a humorous kind of defiance to all that. I also loved it when James tipped coffee over Bear. Anything that subverts the Bb conventions amuses me - such as Bear finding it impossible to stay still during eviction shows and jumping up on the zebra. I liked the way he talked to the dog and the mirror and how fearless he was in the face of Renee's threats. His face to face noms were hilarious as he made no attempt to follow tradition and be polite and reluctant.

Alongside Bear's exuberance was also his enthusiasm and the energy with which he threw himself into tasks. He loved the show and made no secret of how much winning would mean to him, which was a welcome contrast to cynical types like James who were keen to take the money and run.

I also watched all the live feeds and saw a quieter and more sociable side to Bear when he played bowls and chatted to Ricky late at night after Lewis had gone.

Bear reminds me of one of my brothers back when we were kids (long ago). I also like how he sticks up for Chloe.”

I think the whole point of being a WUM is that you expect a reaction, Bear was absolutely delighted she got so upset

Have to laugh - 'bear didn't mean to wind her up'.

Even though his MO is that, and that's what his fans love him for.

You couldn't make it up.

I would have thought there would be a little bit of crowing, after all they and their beloved managed to ruin this years CBB.

He meant to wind her up (get angry) but not to cry. I really don't think he wanted to hurt people (make them cry) but to get them to react (with outrage or laughter or something but not genuine sadness) IMO. I saw him as an excitable over exuberant hyperactive puppy dog. One can get upset at the puppy for chewing on your shoes or you can play with the puppy with puppy toys so that it isn't bored and doesn't chew your shoes maybe I am wrong but that is my perception of CBB. I never saw him say anything nasty to anyone or behind anyone's backs unlike most of the others. Sure he wasted BB food but so did others (just in different ways like Renee throwing away that breakfast or Aubrey smearing pie on Bear's bed). I also wonder if some of the tension between Bear and Renee was planned in advance between the two.

I also feel bad for Bear that almost everyone here hates/dislikes him and he never didn't anything horrible imo. The worst he did was up Lewis's dare to Marnie about saying to Saira about her being jealous of the boobs (something like that). Marnie shouldn't have listened to him. That was wrong of him to suggest that part of the dare. Still it wasn't that bad imo....it just made Marnie look bad especially when she added her bit of shaking them in Saira's face. It was just a thoughtless lad type dare...stupid but not "evil". The rest of the Bear show was just playful imo.

Heavy bothered me more but I felt sorry for him when Katie got personal with him. I think she got a bit too mean in her response to him asking her why she was there. I thought both Katie and Heavy looked equally bad in that argument since it got so personal. I'm glad to see them getting along on finale night and who knows, they could have planned that argument for airtime.

Again, I feel sorry for Bear....most of the HMs dislike him and most of this forum dislikes him. I didn't find him nasty like Helen Woods.

edit: I'm off the forum until next CBB unless there is some juicy gossip I read that causes me to come back. CBB is done and I'm just going to check my thread about Andy's video of finale night.

Cheers

Especially in a thread which is specifically to jab and prod at Bear supporters.

Have to laugh at the irony of a Bear detractor coming into a thread wondering where the Bear fans are, and then getting upset when they turn up.

That is ridiculously disingenuous and just goes to demonstrate how blinkered some of the anti-Bear posters can be.

This entire thread has been a dig against forum members who supported Bear.

Well let's be honest those who claim they liked him because he was a wum is fair enough but those who claim he's a decent guy cannot be taken seriously imo.

The guy is a grade a douche.

That's the thing though, I think a lot of people don't want a performance, they want reality (or as close as it can be) on a reality show.

I don't want to see people prodded and goaded to 'expose their ugly side'. I'd much rather it came out on its own, naturally.

Most of his fans work for channel 5, the rest of them are working on his planned family show, which only a handful of people would be sad enough to watch.

He is an obnoxious, nasty bit of work who won because it was fixed, not because his is liked.

No it wasn't, I started at a time when the forum was deficient of Bear supporters. Nice of you to tell me why I started it though, does that work in other situations as well?

My husband [who used to be BB fan too] had a suggestion as to where all the Bear fans may have gone [as there seem to be to few still here]. His theory made sense to me so I'm posting it here.
He theorised that the people who enjoyed Bear's 'performance' are the same people who enjoy scripted reality shows of the type he, Marnie, Lewis etc come from. He theorised that they are not into BB particularly. So, now that the show is over they have literally lost interest in the process.
The interactive, cerebral side of BB means nothing to them so they have already moved on.

I think my husband has a point.

Some of the trolls are back, must have got bored or their 'Must defend Bear' alarm must have gone off. It's sweet they have that devotion.

It was nice to have a normal forum for a day and a half.

excellent post vicky .

I think most of the hatred towards him is unwarranted , I think after a few weeks people will be wondering what they got so upset about .

He isn't a puppy though and he isn't a toddler, he's a man in his late 20s. It's not the other housemates responsibility to indulge him.

Maybe the people who voted for Bear have moved on with their lives now that the show is over

Maybe they are the type of people who watch a reality TV show with a sense of perspective and never get 'invested' as though it, or it's contestants, somehow still matter when the show is over

It's interesting, though, that the folk who are reluctant to move on are those who 'hated' Bear with an irrational intensity

Maybe, for them, the requirement to have someone ... anyone ... to aim their bile at, is a need that is never fully satisfied

Who knows

Yet more intellectual snobbery! CBB and BB are both embarrassing programmes to watch, mortifying to admit to amongst fellow professionals. To call the process of watching cbb 'cerebral' is risibly pretentious.

This is is a show with vomit tasks, nudity and expletives every other sentence. It really isnt that deep.

What happened when you did?

Did they display some of that 'intellectual snobbery' you're deriding?
